Folder Exclamation icon after disconecting in WinXP
I use my iPod on two computers and i often transfer large files between the two computers using my iPod. Well a few minutes ago, I brought it down to one of the computers and plugged it in. I waited about 30 seconds longer than usual before the computer detected it, but when it did, in My Computer it showed up as "Removable Disk (F:)" as oposed to what it usually says, "IPOD (F:). When I tried to open drive F: it said "please insert a disk into the drive." After that I decided to disconnect it by going down to the system tray and clicking remove removable device. After that a message popped up that said that the computer isn't yet finished using the disk. I tried it two or 3 more times, making sure that any Explorer windows or any other programs were closed. After a few unsuccesful tries I gave up and just pulled the plug out. The iPod rebooted itself but when it did it gave me that folder with the exclamation mark icon. I rebooted it again with no luck.
Is there anything I can do short of replacing the hard drive?

Restore the iPod back to factory settings using the updater. You may need to put it in disk mode for it to be detected. Try and see if you can. If not then you can return it to Apple for servicing or do it yourself.

Just a few minutes ago I plugged my iPod back into my computer and tried to see if I could do an iPod restore, but when I plugged it into the computer it would bring up the do not disconnect screen, then quickly flash to the ok to disconnect screen. I played around with it for a few minutes to no sucess. I sat back in my chair trying to wonder what life would be like without an iPod while I waited for it to come back from the AppleService place, when suddenly, the backlight turned on and the main menu appeared! Anyways, the moral of the story is...don't lose hope? I dunno. There probably isn't a moral. Just don't plug your iPod into crappy computers that eat computer drives (the same computer broke my USB Flashdrive a week ago).

Well I'm glad to hear that it's working now. :) I had to go through the folder + ! icon on my screen before so I know what it's like.
