Oops....mini through the wash!
I discovered my Ipod mini at the bottom of my wash machine after a couple washes, I left it in my pocket....grrr...anyway, I got the mini at the end of October this year, I bought the best buy extended warrantee, do you guys think something like that is covered? Im so dissapointed right now...I love my mini...if all hope is lost in getting a replacement, is there a way I can get it fixed for cheaper than buying a new one for $250? thanks

wow something like this happened to another guy just a few days ago, maybe do a search and see what the responses were there. I dunno if they'll replace it or not, best thing to do would be to NOT turn it on for a couple weeks and let it dry out, and after that time, if it doesn't work contact best buy and hope they'll replace it. Goodluck

already tried to turn it on after it happened, and plugged it in for a second, so am I screwed, should I just try for best buy now? or is it possible it will still dry out and be ok

I'd prolly contact best buy and see what they can do, chances are trying to turn it on with the water inside shorted something.

Working as a tech at best buy, I can say no, that kind of damage isn't covered under service plans, but, if the store you purchased it from was being legit, you don't have a SERVICE plan on your mini (it's less than $250, technically) you have a replacement plan. Call the 1-888-BestBuy number, follow the steps to get a replacement voucher because your mini stopped working. no need to supply details if you don't have to, right?
Hopefully, you have the replacement plan, I know some stores out there will increase the price of the mini during the sale by a penny, and sell a service plan because it makes the department's numbers look better, as opposed to customer service's numbers (they get credit for replacement plans)

if you have a replacement plan, just wait till the thing dries out, bring it back to them, and act like you dont know what happened. They'll replace it right then and there for you, and they'll have no idea what happened to it until their tech checks it out. Even then, they might just think the thing shorted itself out or something.

I have a friend who has access to a shrink wrapping machine. One time he was trying to mod his TI-85 graphing calculator, but messed up the soldering job and fried the whole thing.
He bought a new TI-85 from Best Buy, swapped it out for his botched one, re-shrinkwrapped the box, and returned it the next day saying he got it as a gift for someone, but it turned out they already had a graphing calculator. They gave him a full refund.
I feel sorry for the guy who ended up with that calculator after they re-shelved it.

lol, that's one way to do it :) every store is a little different, my techs are all evil, so we assume everyone returning something is just as evil as us, so we nitpick returns like crazy...except for our own ;) my old creative took a short trip through a microwave when I decided I wanted a mini :D

the best buy warrentys rule...my toshiba s-805 laptop just crapped out one day and i brought it in..so they shipped it to cali for repairs wen it came back it didnt work still so they were like ok we will refund ur whole price (2100) always buy best buy warrentys

that's why they take your information when you do a return. That way, when they find the fraud you've committed, they can go after you...
As for your Tide-Fresh iPod, unless you have some kind of accidental damage insurance, looks like you're buying a new mini...unless of course you're going to defraud the store and tell them it just quit working... in which case you will be contributing to the rise in cost of extended warranties.

I'd say try to take apart your mini without damaging the case severely and dry out the internal parts completely with a blow dryer. Don't tell Best Buy that you left it in your wash machine, but instead it just stopped working. (refer to this option only if your desperate which you probably are, and this method probably isn't legal.. heh) If you told Best Buy that you left it in your washer, my guess is you'll definitely not get a new one or a refund.

That's illegal and just plain wrong.

My freind did this with Half-Life 2...He opened the box and removed the sticker thing with a blowdryer, installed it, registered the CD key, and repackaged the box and returned it...once the CD key is registered, the new owner cant even play the game...LOL sucks for them.

I'm sure you'd agree with yourself when you purchase an already been use...err..ruined graphing calculator.
To the thread starter, good luck with it, I can't imagine how irritating that is.

Unrelated but sometimes people can be so cheap; Costco has a great return policy but unfortunately some people abuse it. *Someone* bought a Maxtor 250Gb hard drive-- returned it the next week with their old 20Gb drive in the place of the 250Gb one. Bad karma. =P
