Life span of a 3G iPod

I purchased my 3G iPod (windows) in May and have used it every single day since. That's not the question, the question is I make a playlist for work which means my iPod is running for over 8 hours every day. I'm just worried it will burn out one day and then I'm screwed.
Any thoughts on the duration or life span of a 3G iPod?

I use my 3g ipod almost all of every day (during work) and it's still going strong after almost 12 months of service :)

Apple says that after around 500 charges the iPods battery life might decrease.

That sounds good. I don't know what I would do without my iPod at work. Anyone else have any other info?

Yeah the battery will wear out after while, but that is easily replaced once it does go. You should be fine for at least 18 months with the stock battery but YMMV of course. Apart from that it should last for a good few years.

I've been using my iPod mostly every day for 14 months and it is running quite well. You will get 500 cycles (a full charge and discharge) according to Apple. The estimated life span is about 18 months..

Back when the 1Gs, 2Gs, and a good part of when the 3Gs were for sale the iPod batteries were very hard to find. Apple had no replacement options until a bunch of iPods starting dying suddenly... I believe all that Apple had come up with at the time was a $250 replacement battery. Now there are plenty of options. You can send it to Apple, an online store that specializes these sorts of things, order it online and do it yourself for around $60, etc..
