Battery run down

Hi, I have a 2nd gen 10gb ipod, of which i have owned for about 18months of daily use. Recently the battery has started to run down. From reading lots of complaints of the battery running out I thought it would be that. I then bought a new battery, which is said to have more power. However although the battery lasts longer it does not last as near as long as some of my friends and how long I remember it running for. The ipod heats up a lot more than usual. If I charge it up one evening and then try to use it in the morning the battery is completely run out. I think it is something like a short or something. Its like the battery only has a certain amount of life playing or not from when i take it off the charger. Another observation is when charging the ipod never says it is full. I could leave it charging all night and look in the morning and it will still have the bars moving in the battery meter. The ipod also does not sync with the computer. My PC doesn?t register it at all let alone iTunes to sync with it.

I don't know what to do as I do not necessarily want to buy a new ipod. I do not worry too much of opening it again as I have already done so. I imagine I will need to do so again to fix it because it is most likely to be a hardware rather than a software problem.

Any help would be very much appreciated, if you have experienced this or if you know how it might be fixed then thanks!

Thanks

Alfie
