Ipod Doesnt Charge through Firewire
Hi,
I've had my 3G Ipod for about a year, and only recently have seen other people charging their Ipod through their firewire or USB 2.0 ports. When I connect using USB or Firewire, the battery seems to run down really quickly rather than charging.
Anyone got any suggestions as to why this may be? Is there something wrong with the pod or is it because its an older model?
any help much appreciated
cheers

Not all FireWire ports can charge, this is especially true on laptops. The most likely scenario is that you simply have a FireWire port, which does not charge.. This has nothing to do with the generation either as I use my 3G iPod with FireWire on my iBook.
One solution to get your iPod to charge with USB attached would be by using the Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/72502/wo/Ge6YpdSrezv922DoyxUM973rmoa/2.0.11.1.0.6.3.11.18.2.2.5.1.1) cable, which I assume you already have.. With this you could attach the FireWire lead to the AC Adaptor, which goes into the wall outlet. That would provide the charge to the iPod. Now since the USB lead is included into this cable you can attach that to the USB port on your computer, which would provide the transfer.
Hope that helps,

Since this is not a "iPod Mac" problem, should it be moved to a better forum where he can get some responses?
