Folder opens when iPod connects?

This isn't an iTunes question, so please dont' move this to that forum. I believe this is the right place to post this because it's an iPod on Windows question.

Anyhow... At times when I connect my iPod to my PC (WinXP), a folder will open showing the drive for the iPod. This happens some of the time. Now I notice there are some files called ds_store and things like that but I'm not sure what these files are. Obviousally Windows is seeing the iPod as a data drive.

I have the Belkin photo transfer device to use with my digi-cam at times, but I haven't put photo's on my iPod in a few months. Could it be that there are remnants of those transfers still on the iPod that make this window come up?

I'm figuring worst case, I just format it and go from there but that seems excessive for a simple thing.

Anyone have any suggesstions or info? Thanks.

You probably have your iPod set in disk mode. Open up the iPod prefs in iTunes and check if the "Disk Mode" box is checked. If you uncheck the box then the computer should stop seeing it as a hard-disk.

The .DS_store is a mac file that stores info about window position & icons etc, so it can be safely deleted on a XP iPod.

I know the iPod isn't in disk mode because once iTunes finishes its sync, it dismounts the iPod. But before iTunes launches, Windows brings up a window of the iPod contents. So I'm guessing that suggestion wouldn't work.
