ipod not recognized by itunes
First, I apologize if this question has been answered, but I looked in previous posts and did not find an adequate answer.
This morning I tried to update my ipod (15 GB) and it is not recognized in itunes (PC version). I have it plugged into a firewire. The ipod is getting powered up from this connection, but will not be recognized by the computer. I have tried all the steps on apple's support page and no luck. PLEASE send any help you can. Thanks.

I am having the same problem, my Ipod is not being recognized when I go to reconfigure it with the CD that came with it, the Ipod updater from apple.com doesn't recognize it, and neither does Itunes. It does charge up though.

Have you tried a reset like ZeeVee suggests? To reset your iPod (assuming 3g since you said it was a 15gig one), hold down on the play and menu keys until you see the apple logo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried th reset many times, but no luck. Is ther a way to resore factory settings on the ipod without using the computer (since the ipod is not recopgnized by the computer)?

Exactly the same problem here. In fact I've been scouring the web for 3 days trying to get a direct answer, cause the Genius Bar is even stumped. I've done everything short of re-installing my OS(PC)... I checked the root usb hub...all operational! Restarted the PnP service manually. Connect my girl's iPod and it was recognized, yet asked to be updated, yet mine does not!
Any assistance at this point would be appreciated.
Oh did I say this is my first post? Proud card carrying member of the IPodGeneration.

Same thing happened to me. I have 4G 20GB iPod. The iPod was charging, but iTunes did not recognize it. What worked for me:
I left the iPod connected to the PC, but turned off iTunes and rebooted hte PC. The iTunes got launched automatically with the reboot and the iPod was recognized.
