iPod bleats and blips
My 3G 20GB ipod makes noises constantly when its not even in use, these range from high pitched whining noises i can hear from a metre or so away to quiet blips and bleats only audible if i press it against my ear.
I've had the ipod for one and a half years now. Also sometimes when i select a track to play it will either skip it and play the next one down in that album or it will go back to the main menu (if that track was the only one in album?)
Whats gone wrong? I read somewhere that noises like this mean the harddrive is about to die so I'm a bit worried

Try rebooting into diagnostics mode and run a hard drive scan. There are several tutorials on the web that will walk you through it.

ok, i'm trying that but it never seems to complete
The first time it reset because the battery ran so low due to it turning and leaving the light on for some reason

Maybe you have your ipod set to alarm? Check it out and disable it if you don't want to hear it beep. Hope this helps you.

na it's not that kind of beep. Its a very quiet tick-tick-bleet sound i hear when i put it to my ear.
I managed to get it to complete a harddrice scan and it passed.

Mine sounds like that up-close as well, AFAIK it's perfectly normal for the hard disk to make some noise when in use. The whines are more of a worry though, sounds like something is wrong with it. Have you ever dropped it or has it been damaged in any other way?

Yeah and i hear them when its not even in use. when its asleep
I'm reluctant to say this because its will probably start up again right after this thread has died its death but it doesn't seem to be making the noise anymore. Could the HD scan have sorted something out? or is it purely a diagnostic thing that doesnt fix anything?
