I have Photo Viewer on a G3?!

After recently erasing and restoring my G3 iPod's hard drive, I now have Photo Viewer listed under Extras. Did I install the wrong software version? I used update 11-15-2004. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

try viewing a photo and see what happens...it could be like that Archos player that let you view photos on a gray-scale LCD...that would be awesome lol

That will be the software for the belkin media reader thingie, AFAIK you can turn that on in the menu options of any 3G/4G.

Actually, the option for the Belkin would be Photo Import.

If he's actually seeing Photo Viewer, then something is definitely odd...

However, keep in mind that even the iPod photo doesn't have a menu item that says Photo Viewer.

Wow, this could be really cool if it is something to view pictures on. I really want to know if this is an option to view pictures on.

My guess is that he's reading the photo import and mis-spoke. I thought the same thing with my 4G (3.0.1) the other day till I did a search on this board and found the photo import description.

So far from what I can tell Apple is not going to give any current owners anything other then the shaft. No new features if they can get you to buy another new one.

Ahem... oops ;)

Yeah, Photo Viewer would be strange then... unless it was just a misread ;)

Damn, this is gonna disappoint everyone:

Needless to say after spending 4 hours sunday morning trying to fix my iPod, then fixing it, then studying for 14 hours straight for finals today it was one fat mis-read. It says photo import. Now you can go back to whatever else you were doing

But on another note, since I haven't even touched my iPod in 4 months, what is photo import, and what does it do?

Thanks all. Glad I could make your day interesting.

I think it is for the belkin media reder. If this is on, all photos are copied from the memory card to the hd, and then deleted from the card.

You can use that reader to copy the photos from your memory card to the iPod's HD. The Photo Import menu lets you control it.

it is on my 4G 20GB too and I don't have any extra apps or devices configured.

look in: ipod settings -> main menu -> photo import = off

if you choose 'on' it will appear in the settings screen, but I have never figured out how to use it for transferring photos. I can see an option in iTunes, but it is greyed out, probbaly only works for iPod photo but is included in all firmware maybe?

Belkin makes two products -- the Belkin Media Reader and Belkin Digital Camera link (you can find the iPodlounge reviews of these two devices here (http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=1813_0_6_0_M) and here (http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=3775_0_6_0_M).

As has already been stated, the Photo Import option is for the support of either of these devices. It allows you to copy the content of your memory card or digital camera to your iPod's hard drive. It works with both 3G and 4G iPods, as well as the iPod photo (although it doesn't take any special advantage of the iPod photo's capabilities as compared to a 4G).

The principle behind these devices is to allow you to use the portable hard drive capabilities of your iPod to empty your camera memory cards so that you can take more pictures.

If you don't own one of these Belkin devices you might as well turn the "Photo Import" menu setting off, as it won't do anything for you (even on an iPod photo, I might add).
