format ipod for both pc and mac

Ok at home i use a pc and at school i use mac and it would be nice to use the storage of my ipod for both pc and mac since i'm a multimedia major and need to bring large files between my pc and the macs in the classroom daily. I currently have it formatted for a pc and i was wondering if there is a way to format it so that i can use it for storage on a mac as well. i'm not concerned about transferring music or using itunes on the mac just the storage. sorry if this has already been covered but i didn't find any useful information when i did a search

As long as you have a PC iPod you will be legit. (format for PC before using it with a Mac)

Yes, you need to have it formatted for PC because Macs can read the PC format and just set it to 'manually manage songs and playlists' to keep it from auto sync'ing and deleting your music. You can use it as a HD and drag-n-drop songs and data onto it.

thanks for the quick replies, i can't believe i could have been using it as an external hd this whole time. i've been cramming everything onto a 256mb jump drive all semester.
