The jack has almost no grip on the plug. pretty much whenever i put my iPod in my pocket the plug comes out. When iinsert the plug itdoesnt click in, like it does with other objects taht i plug them into,it more slides very easily... please help.

the only suggestion I have is to get the remote(or use it if you already have it), the remote port will add extra grip.

Not sure what you mean, but watch the language, please.
# 3 Re: Headphones running away
Try some other headphones.. That way, you can figure out whether it's the headphone plug, or the iPod receptor.. Could be important.
# 4 Re: Headphones running away
sorry about the launguage, its the ipod , not the head phones. it does it with every pair i own and the remote even falls out..its crazy. the remote does add some grip, though.
Does anyone else have this problem??

If the port is larger than normal ones are, I don't see how you can even get a sound out of it o_O.

no, it started out fine, they wouldnt fall out...hell i could probly have suspened it from the cord if i tired, but no it just takes a little tug and its out...

If it's that bad, and you want to give it up a while, you might want to give Apple a call.. I would, as that would be ay too annoying!
# 8 Re: Headphones running away
im thinking about it, but my warrenty is up (i have a 3rd gen) and i dunno if i could take school with out music
# 9 Re: Headphones running away
You could take it into an Apple Store if there's one near you. That way you wouldn't have to wait for it to go back and forth in the mail.
IT sounds to me as if it's a problem with the jack, Apple should resolve this for you.

i suppose i mightbe able to spend some time away.. it has a few bugs and the backingis a little bent around the edges...i dont know.i just want to see if anyone else has something to sugest
# 11 Re: Headphones running away
Well the only thing someone could suggest apart from getting it fixed would be some kind of Botch job using tape or something.
And I'm sure you don't want to settle for that :)

If your warranty is up, Apple might charge a lot to get it fixed. You can try some third party place such as PDA Smart ( http://www.pdasmart.com/products/AP21ipodpartscenter.htm). It's still a bit expensive for the headphone jack, but it might be cheaper than Apple.

How about wedging a little chewing gum in there?
j/k. Mine is a little on the loose side also, and it's only a week old. In these jacks there's a little spring tab and it's just not tensioned properly. But I doubt it's something that can be fixed without replacing the part.

The slackness of the socket is deliberate - previous iPods suffered from the sockets and surrounding plastic breaking. Apple probably decided to engineer in a slight oversize to prevent extra strain being placed on the socket by ear/headphone cords being pulled whilst in use. It may also account for the fact that iPods now pause if the jackplug is pulled out.

Yeah, currently I have some sony headphones that do that; theyre the only pair that has ever done that for me though - I had the same headphones before and they worked perfectly - I suggest trying new headphones.
