Ipod resetting automatically

I have been browsing around for this problem my 40 GB 4 G ipod has been giving me but without success. Any comments/help would be appreciated.

My ipod resets itself if I do not use it for a couple of days. For e.g. if I were to let it be for 2 days, when I try to switch it on, the only way I can do it is by holding down the menu button for sometime.
And then the Apple icon comes up spinning the Hard Drive before it powers up.

I do not lose any music. However, all my settings are lost. Happens everytime. I called Apple Tech support but they could not help.

Has anyone else faced this. Any help will greatly help a very disturbed mind.

Thanks!!

that happens to all ipods, but only in the new 4gs do you lose your settings I think. I'm pretty sure it's the firmware.

It's meant to be that way. Not sure of the exact timeframe in which it'll happen, but after a day or two of idleness, the iPod will go into "deep sleep."

The only setting that seems to be problematic for me is the Clicker, which always reverts back to Speaker when my iPod goes into said "deep sleep" (I always set it to Off). Not a big deal, though. My EQ Setting remains at Rock, and so does my Main Menu configuration.

Are you sure ALL of your settings are reset when this happens?

Thanks Enigma and Mystic. Actually to answer your question Mystic, I think I primarily lose my clicker settings. Havent checked any of the other settings.

Thanks a ton though!

I have noticed this happening as well. If I don't play the iPod for like 2 days or so, and I go to turn it on, it takes a while to finally come on and there is the Apple logo. All my settings are intact except for the fact that I like to shuffle my songs. I may be in the middle of shuffling a playlist and then if the iPod resets, I lose my place in the shuffle. Shuffle is still enabled, but I have to start over again. It won't remember what song it was on when I last turned it off. This is mildly annoying as I will inevitably come across songs that I have heard fairly recently instead of going through the entire shuffled playlist without a song repeating. If this is a firmware problem, then hopfully we will see a fix in the future.
