Formatting failure
I've had my iPod for about three months now, and this is the first issue I've had with it.
When I connect it to my computer, iTunes and iPod Updater don't recognize that it's connected. I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling it. I finally got iPod Updater to recognize it, so I decided to restore to factory settings. However, I got an error messages saying "Formatting failure. Disk write error." Now I can't even get iPod Updater to open (it says iPod service failure).
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Ewwwww, bad juju. That sounds like a dead hard drive. Try repairing the iPod's drive using 'Disk Utility' . Its in the utilities folder on your Mac. You might also try reformatting the drive using 'Disk Utility'
If that doesn't work try 'Disk Warrior' or 'TechTool Pro'. Both of these disaster fix-it software packages must be bought.
If one of these doesn't fix it, the drive is dead and its time to buy a new iPod. Replacing a hard drive costs almost as much as a new iPod.
