***HELP***6 port usb2.0 hub problem

Hi, New user here 20 gb ipod 4g. windows xp (with usb 2, not working)
Ive had a look through the previous posts, but could find no help, so I thought I'd ask!!

I connected my ipod to my pc using usb (1), all was fine, but the pc told me, I would get better results using USB 2.0. So I purchased a "Mentor pci card, 6 port usb2.0" The card has installed fine and works ok, my problem is when I plug in the ipod using the new ports, windows cannot recognise the device. When I plug back into the old usb (1) port, it is detected as: mass storage device, usb(0) ipod
I looked at the drivers for this, and found where they were located, I tried to instal these drivers onto the usb 2.0 port, but I had no luck.

I can live with the slower usb1, I can also get a refund on the card, but at ??12 is hardly worth taking it back, the thing I dont like is every time I dock/connect my ipod, windows tells me that this device will work better with usb 2.0 then I have to go through the routine of telling it I dont have usb 2, (time wasting and tedious to say the least).

Well if anyone can tell me how to get the ipod drivers to be recognised by my usb2.0 I will be a happy man.

Thanks in advance

Rob

1st off - welcome to the lounge! :D Did you follow the installation instructions TO THE LETTER? - Most USB stuff is uber picky about how it's installed.Usually you have to install any drivers BEFORE you install the hardware or it WILL NOT opperate correctly. :)

Hi Oink, Thanks for the reply & the welcome.

Yes I did follow the instructions, what I dont understand is, everything else works fine through the new ports, like my Ipaq, mouse etc, but it cannot detect the ipod, but as soon as i plug into the old usb 1 port, it is detected and suggests that I plug it into 1 of the 6 available usb2.0 slots!!!!
bit of a loop going on then as you can imagine.
Still on the lookout for any other lounger that may be able to help.

Cheers

All i can suggest then is to reinstall the iPod/iTunes with it connected to the USB2.0 card rather than the USB1.0 port:confused: Are there any USB options in the PC's Bios you need to enable? Does the card show in device manager ok? (a yellow exclamation mark by it indicates a problem) :)

Howdy!

What else do you have plugged into the USB card - have you tried it with nothing in other than the iPod.
What cable are you using to connect the iPod - the usb/firewire cable.
Are you powering the iPod?
And finally have you checked the device manager - are there any yellow"!"?

I had a right nightmare 2 years ago with all this usb nonsense - we'll get you sorted! I was!

Hi! First post!

Right... I had a similar problem with my USB connection, it wouldn't recognise the iPod at all. So you need to refresh or 'reboot' the actual iPod. It won't delete any of your files or music, it may reset the clock, but that's it. Check out this section in the FAQ:
http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs_more.php?id=88_0_10_0_C

"4th generation iPods (includes HP, U2, and iPod Photo) and iPod mini: Press the "Menu" and Select (center) buttons for about 5 to 10 seconds - until the Apple logo appears.

3rd generation and older iPods: Press the "Play/Pause" and "Menu" buttons - hold for about 5 to 10 seconds - until the Apple logo appears.

This will reset (reboot) your iPod. Please note - if you are running version 1.2 of the firmware this will reset your iPod's clock. Otherwise, it changes nothing else on your iPod."

Hope you get it sorted!

Hello, I bought a 2.0 USB 5 port card and I have the exact same problem.

The ipod works with USB 1.1 and I get the message this device will work faster with USB 2.0, but when I plug it in the 2.0 I get a windows error that this device is not recognized by windows.

All other devices work just great with the USB 2.0 mouse, digicam, mic ETC ETC.
I tried everything you guys suggested here, nothing works.

Please HELLLP!!

Mine has the same problem. I just purchased a 10GB, second hand, and am using a brand new USB cable, however it will not be recognized on my computer. It says, device not found. Or that there is something wrong with the unit. I see you've said to reset it, however, there is no battery left in the ipod, so when i press the menu and play/pause, the apple icon comes on, and then it just kinda dies. I'm not sure what to do if they ipod has no batter life at all....it won't charge of course either because it wont be recognized. I'm so upset, this is a xmas present gone horribly wrong :(

dont get cheap USB/IEE1394 cards as LOTS of things are very picky.use belkin or something with a VIA chip on it. Hope this helps.

Welcome
