Is this a problem?

Hi, I am an ipod novice, just recieved an HP ipod 40G last night as an early xmas gift.

My home pc crapped out a few weeks ago and I am currently home computerless.
Lucky for me , my good mate offered to set up my new ipod on his pc and load up most of his music collection for me. (good thing we have similar taste)
anyway my question is this: He has an G3 apple ipod and I have the G4 40G HP version. (I only realized today there was a difference) Will this be any problem??
Can i set up my ipod on his pc and then reinstall the software on my pc after i save up to get a new one in a few months? Will this adversely affect his machines in anyway?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice!

iPod is an iPod (same factory)...... so that is not an issue.

If you keep your iPod.... What will be an issue is if you use iTunes on your computer and your iPod is set-up for autosync.... if so, the tunes your friend put on your iPod via his computer will be wiped next time (first time) you connect to your PC.

Using your iPod on his computer won't mess-up his computer......

He can set up a separate limited account on his PC for you to use and easily delete it when finished with it. You will need to put your iPod on "manually manage songs and playlists" before you finish using his PC so that the iPod will not be erased when you connect it to your new PC.

In iTunes 4.7, go to Edit>Prefences>iPod to set it to manual. Doing it this way will not effect his iPod.

That shouldn't be a problem, both iPods are essentially the same anyway. When I still had my 3G I was synching that and my new 4G with the same iTunes library with no troubles.

Once you get a PC back up and running all you need to do is set up your iPod with it, you'll probably lose the music that your friend put on your iPod but I would imagine you'll want your own stuff on your own iPod anyway. (There are also ways around that as well if you want to keep his music though).
