My iPod memory is locked and I cant access my songs in the iTunes
Hey, I am pretty much a newbie with iPod. I just got the 20G iPod about a week ago, so I assumed it is the latest generation. My husband already has one so I just plugged my iPod into the computer and it's connected to iTunes. It started updating and what not, then suddenly all the songs title are grey colored and I can't click on them. I noticed at the bottom of the iTunes where it's said the memory, it has a lock icon and when I switched to my husband's, he doesn't have one. Bottom line, I just need to know how to unlock it or to reset it, even if it means I have to lose the songs I have transfered. Thanks a bunch for whoever can help me out!!

You can't play songs from your Ipod, via Itunes, if you've got auto sync switched on.
Right-click on the Ipod in Itunes. Go to options, and select "Manually manage songs".
Of course this does what it says. You will manually now have to add any new songs onto the Ipod.
Enjoy!

Welcome to iPodlounge!
Sounds to me like you clicked on your iPod icon in iTunes, and your iPod is set to one of the "auto-sync" modes. In the auto-sync mode all of the music files will appear greyed-out in iTunes.
If you prefer to manually drag-and-drop your music from iTunes onto your iPod, then you'll need to change your iPod Preferences.
This iPod 201 article should help:

Hi there and welcome to iPodlounge.
Basically, it would appear that your iPod is set to synchronize automatically. This isn't really a problem per se, but it does mean that you can't access the content of your iPod directly.
In automatic synchronization mode, any changes you make to your music library in iTunes will be automatically synchronized to your iPod, so you don't actually edit the content of your iPod directly, but rather make the changes in your main iTunes library. In this configuration, your iPod becomes a complete mirror of the iTunes library on your computer. Many people find this to be the easiest solution for keeping their music organized.
However, since it appears from what you're saying that your husband has been using manual mode, and you're both sharing the same computer, you may want to set your into manual mode as well. To do this, make sure your iPod is connected, and simply go to Edit->Preferences->iPod and choose the option that says "Manually manage my songs and playlists" and click OK. Once you do this you should be able to manage the content on your iPod directly.
There are some very good how-to articles on this forum, under the iPod 101/201 series. You can find them by clicking the "Articles" link at the top of the page. I'd suggest reading through all of the ones that interest you and it should get you up to speed on all the really neat things you can do with your iPod.
