ipod BSOD, updater and itunes problems

specs:

ipod 15 gig 3rd Gen [with the dock] connected via firewire.
windows XP SP1 virus and spyware free [well, relatively]

one day, when my ipod was connected to the dock, i started getting BSODs. i thought it was a virus or something but when i took out the ipod from the dock, the BSODs stopped. i've been too scared to update my ipod [the songs] so i've been listening to the same songs over and over again and charge it using the ac adapter.

today, i decided to install the new ipod updater and the new itunes. i read the part where it said that there wasn't really anything new in terms of firmware updates for my ipod but i thought it might help with the BSOD problem. i also updated itunes.

problem one: the ipod updater kept freezing on me and it was stuck initializing.

problem two: itunes would not recognize my ipod [which seems to be a pretty popular problem in here].

problem three: after i restored my pc to before i installed the updates, the pc BSOD again, with the ipod connected to the dock. i took it out and so far, no BSOD.

is there a site where i can download the old ipod updater versions? i tried the apple site and googled it too but it keeps bringing me to the latest updater version.

help?
