Trading Up an Unopened iPod?

I heard from a friend that if you have an unopened 20g 4g iPod, you can bring it into an apple store and pay the difference to jump up to the 40 gig version. Does anyone know if this is true?

Why wouldn't it be? Considering it's unopened, and even if you do not have a reciept. You can get store credit, then use it then pay the difference

Most places would need some kind of proof of purchase.
Just think anyone could just come in with stolen products and get upgrades or money back?
No way. Talk about asking for abuse!
Why don't you take it back to where you bought it in the first place?
Is that not possible?

good luck with that. an unopened box should not be a problem.

Well, the iPod is on its way from one of those free ipod sites that will remain nameless. I would just like to upgrade when I get it.

Ahh...I can't imagine owning an iPod long enough to upgrade it without opening the box!
