smart playlist help

I have several playlists, on based on Top 75 played (Top playcounts by highest #) is one of my playlists for example, I have checked Manually updating my ipod, not sycing it with my itunes library, I made sure I checked Live Updating as well

My problem is the playlist wont update according to the play count, it does wen I look on my comp but not on my ipod, I want it to update as I the count goes higher, making sense? It's not even updating at all, a glitch? HELP ME PLEASE!

The iPod will make a record that you have played a track and hence increased that track's playcount/last-Played-date etc, but this won't affect the smart playlist until you connect to the PC. At that point iTunes talks to iPod, gets the updated playcount etc, amends the smartplaylist and updates the iPod.
I think you're wanting the iPod to manage/amend the smartplaylist on the go, which I don't think is possible.

All playlist management takes place in iTunes.

The iPod is really just a "snapshot" of your music library at the time of synching.

It will get updated each time you synch, but it is all driven from iTunes.

The only play list your ipod can manage is the "on the go" one and it will also cope with lists based on star ratings.

From reading your original post, you have your iPod on manual. That is the problem. If your iPod is on manual, the playlists are not updated. While the playcounts of the individual songs will update, the order of the files in the playlist won't change. I have the same issue with my iPod mini on manual.

The only solution I have found is to periodically recreate my Top 25 playlist directly on the iPod (through iTunes). That "resets" the song order.

All Live Update does is tell the playlist to add or delete tracks whenever certain criteria are met. On the iPod, the only things that can change are last played date, playcount, and ratings. So playlists based on these criteria will update with new songs as the information changes, but the order of the playlist will remain the same, with new tracks always added to the bottom of the playlist.

The only reason you see the playlist reordered within iTunes is because iTunes has the ability to sort the playlist through the window headings. No such sort options exist on the iPod.

So far the only way to make the changes is through iTunes. I found an easier way to resort a Top songs list through iTunes without recreating it. With iPod connected, view the playlist through iTunes. Make sure it is sorted by playcount, highest to lowest. Then right-click the iPod playlist in the source window and select "Copy to Play Order" That will reset the playlist order on the iPod to the new view.

I manually update my iPod mini and have a most-played smartplaylist with live updating selected and have never had any issues. I don't have to do any "copy to play order" or anything - it always works itself out. Wonder what madskillz7312 has set different to mine?
