From the DJ to the iPod mini..! (Newbie)
Hi all. If you couldn't tell from the topic, I am currently selling my Dell DJ in order to get an iPod mini! I've been searching through the forums and have found great feedback from the mini, and I'm looking forward to ordering it. I just had a couple of quick questions.
-From reading some posts, I hear that there are sometimes some delays when it comes to the vendors shipping the product. I plan to have my mini before the new year's, so I was wondering if anyone recently ordered a mini, and when it shipped? The Apple store says they will ship within 1-3 business days, and for the blue mini, it says it will ship the same business day =D! I also see alot of people ordering from amazon.com though... Who should get my order?
-Being a DJ user, I was very pleased with the long battery life. I literally had mine playing the whole day, and only one bar would go down. Switching to the mini may take time, but I'm worried that it may be an inconvenience. I read that in order to get optimum battery life, you would have to charge and discharge (?) the player correctly. Im confused about this, anyone want to elaborate? Thanks!
(Just want to thank the mods for keeping these forums in check! I used to be on the Dell DJ forums and would only hear complaints to ipodlounge.com and what-not, so thanks!)

Welcome to the lounge. Thank you for the wonderfull compliment. The battery info if you haven't read it is here (http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19556)
Also, here is some info (http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm)
I purchased my iPod from Amazon.com since it was no tax nor shipping charges. Apple would have charged me tax & shipping.
Personally I say don't stress out over a battery since you can also get an external battery for the iPod also. I have two - 1 that takes regular batties (Belkin) and the BTI which I love, plus my inMotion speakers which charge it. Enjoy your iPod. :)

I've never heard of ecost.com, but it looks like a great eStore. Those rebates they offer are quite tempting =) . Seems like they dont have them in stock though. Ive ordered from amazon before so I may go with them. Who knows? I didn't know the apple store included tax, thats a bummer! Oh well, guess I can only wait till i sell the DJ to make up my mind.

Interesting link. As I read this following statement:
- However, an occasional full discharge is desirable (e.g., once every 30 charges) to calibrate the battery.
I remembered what it said on the site of apple:
- For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it?s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month.
This means it suggests that you have to go thru one full discharge/charge per month if we consider the first statement from ipodbatteryfaq?

That is what I do. I normally charge up my iPod every couple of days, even if the battery doesn't need it. But once a month or so I'll run the iPod battery all the way down until the iPod shuts off due to a low battery condition.
