PLEASE HELP! Trying to connect new ipod mini to itunes.
Hi all, myself and my two boys have a problem thats realy trying me. Well 4 months ago i bought my oldest (11) a 15GB ipod and have nearly 3000 tunes on our itunes that are of course on his ipod. Now my youngest (10) has got an ipod mini that i have bought him and we want to fill that with music from the original itunes. I have read and was told that its just a case of plugging the new ipod in and the computer will sink with the new ipod so music can be shared although with less music on a mini. But i have learned its not as simple as that is it?
When i pluged it in the computer/itunes told me that it would have to clear any imfo on the new ipod mini, so i thought that wont matter becourse its new and has nothing on it anyway. Then it in structed me to unplug and recharge the ipod, thats what it is doing right now, please note that there is a picture of what looks like a file on the front screen of the ipod with a ! symble next to it.
Please can any one tell me whats going on? why is it not as simple as i have been lead to beleve? Also i know that we have 3000 tunes on the itunes so will the computer mearly down load the first 1000 on to the mini. And please we are not very clever on the computer so any help you can offer us will have to be simple. Thank you very much for any help you may give to us, i am feeling that maybe it was a mistake buying into ipod. Thanks B

The folder ! info is here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003
Since you have more than 1000 tunes in your library, I'd recommend that you turn off automatic updating. To do so, connect the older iPod, click on it, then click on the iPod icon in the lower left section of the iTunes screen. The selection option will appear in the synchronization pop-up
Have each of your users create smart playlists. For the 15g, you could make one called "Everything" that would take the place of the entire library updating under auto-synch. For the mini, make one with a limit of 999 songs.
Once you have the new playlists, just drag them on to the proper iPod to synch.

Welcome to the lounge. :) My question - why didn't you just read the User's Guide that came with the mini instead of relying on such info? You needed to install the disk that came with the mini on the PC.
That said, the folder & ! means you need to connect the iPod to the updater - you can download here (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download) and once mounted, click the 'restore' button. That iPod needs to be restored back to its factory settings.
You may have to put it into disk mode to get it to connect. The instructions for that are here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651).
Here's a tutorial and a guide that can be downloaded on this page (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod). Take the time to read it.

Thank you for your replys, i have read the manual but cant find the section that tells you how to join another ipod. And realy i beleved the ipod hype about how simple it all is. I was going to buy two more in the new year but now i am thinking not. Thanks again guys.
Just 15 minuets after i have read the advice above, i have tried to plug in my main ipod but now my itunes will not come up, the screen says that my itunes do not seem to be a valid libery file so somethings gone wrong and i seem to have lost me itunes, is this realy the world of ipod??

You don't join iPods. If your trying to connect more than one iPod to a PC then you need to put the 1st iPod on "manually manage songs and playlists" or you can set up a separate account for each on the PC.
Connecting multiple iPods

In iTunes go to Edit>Prefences>iPod to set.
