What are my options here for my Trans Am WS6?

Hello. I have an Aftermarket Alpine Head Unit in my car, i dont remember the model number, but it is about 3 years old, so it doesn't have any of the Ipod stuff the new alpines have. First of all, there is no manual tune on it, it only seeks, and won't play stations that don't come in. What options do i have? I can't obviosuly use the Itrip since the head unit won't let me tune into dead stations, and there is no cassette deck, since its a CD player. I was looking into hardwiring, but what does it entail and how hard is it? I don't have a line in or anything on it. So what are my options for using my Ipod with my system? thanks

You will first need a line-out for your iPod.
http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SS&Category_Code=AAi

You can use the headphone jack, but its not an unadulterated line out (ie you can still control volume on the iPod, which is not ideal).

I'm pretty sure most all alpine's (except the very base models) have some type of CD changer controls since ~2000. You will need to know the model number (printed right on the front).

for CDM-XXXX headunits use M-bus connector:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KlNstGLo12Z/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50900&I=500KCM123B

Connect the mini jack to the sik and your all set.

-------------------------

For CDA-XXXX headunits use
ai-net connector:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KlNstGLo12Z/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50900&I=469ALAIAUX

or
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piealpairca.html

with
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=42-2550

You will need to connect the radioshack mini jack to the sik and then the RCAs to the ai-net adapter.

------------------------

If for some reason you do not have any changer control on your headunit, you can purchase an FM modulator like the N-724 (www.autosound2000.com) and the Mini Jack to RCA (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=42-2550). You should still be able to seek the frequency out once the iPod is playing, the receiver will think it is a very strong radio station.

Thanks. I am just thinking, the CD jack in my headunit is in the back of the unit (the part unexposed). How in the world would i get the wire from the back to inside the car? Would you have to drill a hole in the dash to run the wire through?

Most just run the wire between two interior panels or under the console (between the console and carpet) like this (http://webpages.charter.net/bridgeways/mini/mount). It depends where you want to mount the ipod/carrier, but there is usually a place to route the wire w/o cutting/drilling fairly close by....you just have to be a little creative.
