KCA-420i with Alpine CDA-9825 ?
I have Alpine's CDA-9825 in my '01 Xterra SE. Is this unit compatible with Alpine's KCA-420i ? Is this going to be my best option in terms of sound quality AND cost? I'm currently using the iTrip and although I like being able to use it in different vehicles: I'd kinda like to have a better option for my own vehicle. Any thoughts/ideas/advice? Thanks in advance.

Ok. Don't everyone respond at once. I'm almost postive that my HU is compatible with the KCA-420i from other threads I've read. I guess my only question now is if the gain in sound quality is worth the $$$. I'm currently using the iTrip and haven't had too many problems. The most annoying thing I've had is when I use shuffle mode I always get some of the 'stations' mixed into the shuffle. Anyone know how much installation should run for one of these at like a Circuit City. Oh yeah, will I need any other parts.

It says in everything that i've read that it will work.

If you have aftermarket speakers, and aftermarket head unit, and outboard amps then SQ will definitely improve over FM modulation.
Stock speakers and no amps and the difference may not be as night & day.

The latest Crutchfield says that it can be installed on the CDA-9825 and up. It even works on the 2003 models down to the 9813.

I have that set up with polk speakers and some funk in the trunk and it sounds GOOD!!
I can't really tell the difference from the cd player to the ipod...very nice.
The controls aren't great but the sound is, well worth the $$$ IMO.

cool. that's what i was hoping. fwiw, i have Polk Audio MM6 6.75" 2-way components in the front, some alpine 6x9s in the back, and an Alpine MRV-F340 amplifier along with an Infinity BassLink.

I have it working with a 2003 unit (9807) and it works fine.
The searching is slow and some of the file information doesn't show up (bit rate), but it sounds great.

There is a huge benefit for using the Alpine iPod interface versus the iTrip. The most significant is that you can control and find music on the ipod from the head unit and it also charges it. You never have to use the ipod to play your music. I have also heard that it will turn off your iPod when you turn your car off.

that's true, it also displays a lovely Alpine logo on the ipod while it's connected.
