Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
Ok, so here are some of my ideas for the future iPod:
- Layout similar to 3g, maybe somehow incorporate the 4g clickwheel as well (at least make the center button touch-sensitive)
-15+ hour battery life
-No color screen, it's not needed for music
-An option to turn off the display if on hold for a certain amount of time
-Keep the dock connecter, it works great and there's already a lot of accessories for it
-More Scratch-resistant
-Add FM/AM radio and bluetooth as long as it doesn't bulk up the size of the iPod or its price
Any others?

longer battery life
possibly colour screen depending on what effect it would have on the battery life
That's it don't need an FM radio, don't need bluetooth
# 2 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
theres no way the 5G will have colour screens, it would nullify the point of getting an iPod photo, which HP wants to market by summer 2005...
colour screens wont appear as standard till 6G at least
# 3 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..

Optimism is a wonderful thing....:D
I would love an ipod with even half of the features you describe :D .
Also, do drives that big even exist yet ?

PINOY3000: "Quicktime Movie, Flash, and DVD Support"
No, If you watched the keynote, Apple said their not going to incorporate video because the screens are too small, and it would be too bulky.

two words:
gapless playback
# 7 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
Yeah, I'm just trying to get people to like it and even wish for it that way, Apple will finally listen to what people request, video play back on a maybe bigger iPod. Anyway, I would want an iPod that is half computer that way, iCan switch from Windows to Mac, which BTW, is not a bad idea. I dunno where to write it in the right forum/thread but iWant to switch from Windows to Mac but I also want a powerful mac computer and not spend too much money on it. iHave a budget of about $3,500 and tax already included but my parents wont let me buy a new computer since they got me my laptop just two years ago and doesnt want me to waste all my money on things iAlready have. Im only 16 BTW and doesnt know the whole thing about money and how to spend em wiseley. Whenever iHave money, iJust spend them on anything iCan affford. My parents were even upset when iBought my iPod photo but they got over it in one day since they thought its my money and all and they can't do anything about it.
Any opinions?

Hey, my iPod has gapless playback, iDuno how but maybe im talking about something else. Isn't gapless is something like a song that continues on the next track without you noticing it? If that what gapless playback is, then my iPod has it, its an iPod photo and iDont even notice or know without looking at my iPod that the songs has changed.

Try listening to a live album or an album that has flowing songs and you will notice it..

# 10 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
I think it should incorporate PDA features into. The touch screen would be great for this.
# 11 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
The 5G iPod, should have a colour screen has it could be used for visualisations when playing music and 1 or 2 more games or the ability to add games and apps.
Also the battery life should be 18 hours+.

dude you can change this through itunes.
go to edit > preferences > go to the audio tab and slide the crossfade bar to zero - no fade between songs!
hope that helps

This is only available in iTunes though. It does not transfer over to the iPod. Currently there is no way to get gapless on the iPod unless you merge all the tracks in the album. This, however, would cause you to lose the ability to change tracks conveniently.. The only way that this could be fixed is through a change in the iPod firmware, and as far as I know, the only player that currently supports this is the Rio Karma..

# 15 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
Gapless playback, longer battery, and a layout like the 3 gen. That's all I want.

# 16 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
Is it me or does pinoy merge all of his I's with the word right after it...
more battery, bigger screen, bigger drives. Almost the same thing that apple does each time.
# 17 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
yes he does, hes iMad
# 18 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
everyone wants complex features for new ipod, but i think those features are missing the point. ipod should be compact and light to take everywhere and if you add say a video screen, this would be increasing the size/weight/whatever. the features that are needed on the new ipod are:
*slimmer dimensions
*longer battery life
*fm radio
*scratch resistant
*drop proof (the technology that apple copyrighted earlier this year for when you drop your ipod, the hd knows to shield itself internally)
and the feature that i miss most from 3g:
*clickwheel but with light up words on the buttons

iThink its time for apple to change. They should make several versions of the G5 iPod and people will be able to chose which one they want. If they want one with the video capability/PDA/Computer or w/e Apple puts in their iPod, they can have it, if that person just wants to listen to music, then he/she can have the iPod G5 that only plays music. Video Playback is the hottest thing right now on the market. That way, you can surely play Music and not only that, you can bring all your videos with you anywhere.

# 21 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
iWould pay at least $1,500 for that kind of iPod with the specs iPut in there.
# 22 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
what a waste would that be......
# 23 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
- color screen
- 15-20 hour battery life
- configure the firmware to allow game downloads via iTunes (meaning more money for Apple)
- AM/FM transmitter
- 4G design... but with a white scroll wheel and red light-up buttons a la G3 iPod
not that many changes... but good enough for the iPod to have a very strong hold as the best digital music player around.
and i don't see how a colored screen would affect the iPod Photo's sales. the iPod wouldn't be able to show pictures even if the screen had color, unless Apple designed it to do so.
# 24 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
there are two thing i would like to see change:
1 the size of the 40 gb but i guess thats not apple's fault really more tosheiba's
2 the buttons being so bloody loud. apple went from a silent-button ipod to these loud buttons. [not good]
# 25 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
gapless playback, an iPod that's as small as a 20 gig, but w/ 40 gigs of space (toshiba has that drive locked up untill later this year), a color screen that can play movies, 18 hours of batt. live for slideshows, and xm radio/ recording.
Hah. Say that ten times fast.
It would be a cool 'pod
# 26 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
And maybe a little speaker hooked up so you have the choice of listening to yourself or letting the room listen.
# 27 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
1. bluetooth is a must - i think many third party accessories companies will try to push that in (think of all the possibilities - wireless remote, headsets, connectivity)
2. size - they should make the 5G smaller and thinner
3. better user interface

# 28 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
Gapless playback is on the 3G. Trust me, I listen to an album with flowing tracks (Mars Volta - Deloused in the Crematorium) and tis gapless floeing through from:
Tira me a Las Arandes --> Drunkship or Lanterns.
OR
Son et Luminere --> Intertiatic ESP.
Plus every other song. Also I'd like to see the touch senstive middle button but the others being silent. Possibly an 80GB option, smaller, lighter. Different font used please.
# 29 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
How about wireless transfer from your computer or directly from iTunes to your 'Pod?
# 30 Re: Some ideas on next 5G iPod..
In the next HD-based iPod, I would simply hope that Apple would finally start to listen to its customers. Fours years and, as of yet, no user-replaceable/removable battery!
Here are a few things that I would love to see, the first two being absolutely essential:
-User replaceable/removable battery
-Improved battery life
-Increased storage space
-Apple opens up the firmware to accommodate for plugins, which would lead to support for multiple codecs
I am certain Apple will think of new ways to improve the navigation experience, but I am alltogether quite pleased with my iPod a this moment in time. It would be rather nice to have a replaceable, internal battery, however.

Photo has it, next upgrade for the 5G will be superior (as we have seen multiple times)
-No color screen, it's not needed for music
Speak for yourself... Album art is cool.
-An option to turn off the display if on hold for a certain amount of time
Not needed, the screen/display doesnt even take that much battery life, I forget the numbers, but it was like, extremely low. For instance, my brother has a metronome for drumming, the screen never turns off, and he STILL has the same battery, and has had that metronome for almost 3 months. (the battery size is like a nickel)
-Keep the dock connecter, it works great and there's already a lot of accessories for it
AMEN!
-More Scratch-resistant
Everything scratches...Sorry.
-Add FM/AM radio and bluetooth as long as it doesn't bulk up the size of the iPod or its price
FM radio in mp3 players never work that well anyway, and there is now an atatchment to recieve FM radio... Bluetooth is too slow...
