seeing iPod from another angle
iPod 3G
iPod 4G
iPod Mini
iPod Shuffle
iPod Photo
iPod U2
The word iPod is just the name of a range of products. Coming across many posts that denounce the Shuffle just because it doesn't have click-wheel, screen, etc...
Across the forum, people refer to their gadget as 'mini', 'photo', 'shuffle' , '3G' or '4G'. If you see it from this angle, then shuffle or any product in the future is not limited by the screen and clickwheel.

I think he's trying to say that people are stereotyping (not sure that's the right word) the iPod, in that, all iPods have a click wheel and screen, but in fact, they don't have to. It's just the name of a line of products.

Stereotyping (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=stereotyping) is the right word. Although archetype (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=archetype) is more commonly used for inanimate objects. "Generalizing" would work as well.

yeah, thanks for helping me to find the right word.
Stereotyping doesn't apply when you see it as 3G, 4G, mini or shuffle.

Hey, no problem shervon, I'm glad that you've found the right word. That was directed at polarthunder (see the little "Originally posted by polarthunder" blockquote)

just attended my first lesson on consumer behaviour last night (i'm doing part time further studies) and the lecturer mentioned Apple's slogan "Think Different".
If you're just like everyone else, you'll be thinking that Shuffle "barely resembles a traditional iPod". However, try to "Think Different" and not stereotype all iPods as one with clickwheel and screen.
