Morons Working At Those Stores!

So....

I wanted a iPod for Christmas and since I am going away before Christmas to Western Canada I figured I would at least see if I could get it before I went.

So I am browsing the forums here a few hours before I go to buy one and I see the comparison thing between the iPod and the hPod. I have heard about the ####ty Apple service and figured since I have a PC I might aswell try and get the hPod if BestBuy or Futureshop has one.

I arrive at a huge, packed to the brim Best Buy and I find the section with the iPods. My mom and I flag down an employee and ask him if they have the HP iPods. He tells me they are out of the 20g ones but have the 40s. I said no thank you and motion for my mom to leave. But the guy asks me why I want an HP one over an Apple one when they are exactly the same. I proceed to tell him about the better service and how HP does the tech support not Apple. And he shuts me down, telling me that this is not true and if he had a HP box he would show me that Apple does all the stuff. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"

Anyways, after finally getting away from that jerk we go to the Futureshop. The employee doing the iPod section tries to deny the fact that there is no such thing as an HP iPod. I said yes there is and he says that I am mistaken and it must be an HP mp3 player not an iPod. After getting the hell out of there, we go to the Indigo book store that sells them along with a $125 discount if you sign up for Audible.com.

The guys there are super nice and he didn't know about the hPod but after I explained it he beleived me. Unfortuanetely they were sold out of the 4G 20gb models but since I wanted to anyways, I got the U2 edition. Which is super nice and amazing. Go me! lol

Right now, the iPod is charging and im not sure if I am going to sign up for Audible. Perhaps I will.

Anyways, I am new here and love it. I am probably going to go and get a case for it tommorrow but I can't decide which one. I like the iSkin for the normal IPod but now I can't decide since it's black and red. Would a white iSkin and red clickwheel looks nice? Who knows. lol

Thanks for listening to me fuel my steam over those moronic people who work at these huge stores. Some of them are cool but alot of them are jerks.

Peace

The time of "the customer is always right" is over. Best Buy has even stated they don't want 20% of their customers because of that "customer is always right" attitude some people possess. I'm not saying that's the case with you but I work in retail and we constantly get people that buy stuff and try to return it when it breaks long after our regular return policy. And then they try and say "I spend thousands of dollars here every year and you're not going to let me return this printer I bought 9 months ago?" thinking that we give a damn about how much they spend.
Working in retail, I get the opposite scenario where it's the customer that's the F'ing moron. Like today, I had a guy come into the store for an iPod and I told him we only carry the 40GB HP iPod in the store and the 20GB was available online. He said "I want an Apple iPod because I read that iTunes won't work with anything other than an iPod." I had to explain to the guy that they're the same thing. And then he asked if I were sure and that's when I sprung it on him "Yes I'm sure. I have the 40GB HP iPod myself and it syncs with iTunes all the time." He shut up right then but some of these people really make me wonder if they have any brains at all.

i also spent enough years in retail, and there are always customers that just try to rip off the system, and invariably they account for 99% of the horror stories.

however, for a customer to be mis-informed is to be expected a lot of the times, but there should be no excuse for staff to be mis-informed - this attitude of sell at all costs is crap and more focus needs to be put onto service

my two cents...!

Wow, I can't believe that 1. He didn't know what an HP iPod is (if he is selling them) 2. He wouldn't even acknowledge at all that you might be right.

He just cost Best Buy a $300 sale.
Also, the guy at Futureshop (which I have never heard of) wouldn't even think that there was anything close to an HP iPod. That is just lame. Makes me want to go to the shop, take him to a computer enabled with internet, and show him the HP iPod. That would give him a good dose of reality! :):)

Have fun with your iPod!

Yer, i hate it when the customer always thinks they're right, no matter what the situation. But i also hate it when employees at a store don't have a clue what they're talkig about, yet think they're the one that's right.

It all depends on training. Yesterday, I saw a Best Buy employee do an outstanding job explaining all the different DAPs, and the service plan, to a customer. And at CompUSA, I felt so bad for a customer getting useless info, I ended up helping him, with the employee just looking at me with an empty face.

If an employee cares about their work, and gets proper training, only then will there be satisfied customers.

That makes sense. I've been to loads of tech stores, and the ones at places that sell EVERYTHING such as laptops, PDAs, etc generally don't know anything. When I was at Best Denki the other day considering a Palm, I had to explain to the salesman the specs too -.-

However, the ones at the Apple Stores here are generally very very qualified. I think Apple dealers generally are better dealing with their products, no.1 because they love them and no.2 because its more specialised.

If stores would pay more than minimum wage for their staff, they may get some better qualified people.

I?m curious what type of tech questions did you ask? Having been in retail sales before I can tell you there is nothing worse than a customer who simply wants to tear down Sales people to boost their own ego. I have had it happen to me on several occasions sometimes I win sometimes I lose but what?s worse is win or lose those people generally do not buy anything anyways.

If you?re a sales person in a big retail chain there are way to many products to be tech savvy on them all, key selling points is all most people know. IE this player has feature X where as this player does not. If you want to know more about a product you should do the research on-line and just go in the store prepared to purchase whatever best fits your needs.

This is so true.

I can't tell you how many people would come into my blockbuster and start asking me about the different widescreen formats we carry.

I'm sorry but its blockbuster, not a specialty rental shoppee. ;)

Just venting some steam.

I have had problems as well with some Best Buy people as well.

Me: "I would take the 4Th gen, that way if anything happens you can just take it back to apple no questions"
BB: "Thats not a 4th gen"
Me:"Yes it is..."
BB:"No its not, that is 3rd gen"

And so on. His manager came over because we had to take the box out, and then she was like "Matt its a 4th gen" He got all red in the face and just walks away. :p

I recently got an iPod - took three stores to find one in stock.

First store -

Me : Do you have a fourth generation twenty G iPod?

Salesperson : Umm.. is this it? *holds up ipod photo*

Me : Er, that's iPod photo. I want a twenty gig.

Salesperson : Is this it? *holds up iPod u2*

Me :.. no. That's u2 iPod. I want twenty gig.

They didn't have it.

Next store -

Salesperson receives call : u2 iPod? In stock? That sounds like a toy. Tell them to check the toy section.

Me : ...they won't have it.

Them : We don't have it.

Finally, Best Buy had it - after the guy spent ten minutes trying to convince my mom to buy insurance on it. She kept on saying no, he kept on coming up with reasons. We glared =3

What I hate though, are those people at electronic stores who whenever you start examining, fiddling with, or looking closely at something, come up behind you and say "CAN I HELP YOU?!"

When I was looking around for mp3 players at best buy this guy asked me how many songs I was wanting to store. I said, about 400, and he laughed and went "wow, you're going to jail!" thinking that they were illegally downloaded, and I said, no they're all from cd's. He was like ohhhhh ookkkk and walked away. Why he was thinking that I don't know.

lol this is a funny thread!
i live in the philippines and you get the worst service here. when you ask for somthing the will stall and look around for 30min than eventually say "out of stock sir" like they will get stock later on in the week or somthing. you go back and they still dont have it. and half the time i end up telling other coustomers about the spec's of things. in fact i have become friends with several shop owners and when they dont know somthing they will call me or send the ppl to me if i am in the store. and the worst thing is how they shift the price. i walk into a store and ask for an ipod mini and they say 15,200 pesos (about $300) then i send my driver in (all expats have drivers.) and they give him a completly different price. lol. at least you can bargin in stores here. there is no "set" price. only in super big stores.

I work in retail and the customer is not always right.

1) if you are going to buy something please know what you are looking for. The red thing that was on that table last month just doesn't ####ing cut it.

2) dont come in drunk or stoned on painkillers and try to hold a conversation.

3) dont ##### about the condition of the FREE BATHROOMS. You dont have the right to say peep unless I see you with an armful of merchandise.

4) dont yell that your going to my online competitor because something is out of stock and they are cheaper. WE ARE NOT A WAREHOUSE AND OCCASIONALLY RUN OUT OF THINGS FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS!!!!!!!!

4a) dont come crawling back to me to fill your order after the aforementioned online competitor screwed you by backordering or cancelling your item.

5) dont call me at 5PM (when all suppliers are closed) and tell me you need something by 8am tomorrow and I HAVE TO GET IT BECAUSE MY BOSS WILL KILL ME IF I DONT. Thats your ####ing problem.

6) dont keep something for 6 months and demand cash back when you return it.

7) dont come in at closing time on Thanksgiving, stay 30 mins late (after you have wandered the store for 3 hours) and then when you are ready to check out argue with me about the right tax being charged on your purchase (Its automatic you senile hag)

7a) dont come in the week of Christmas and ##### about long lines when the past 2 weeks stores have been ghosttowns (and its the same ####ing people who shop there year after year).

8) dont tell me you know the CEO and that you own 50% of my company BECAUSE YOU ARE A LIAR!

9) dont leave your children there for hours while you go to

A)a cocktail party
B)work
C)the movies

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW AND WE WILL CALL THE POLICE!!!

10)DONT ASK ME QUESTIONS WHEN I AM CARRYING 60lbs OF MERCHANDISE IN MY ARMS.
ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

A)do you work here?
B)where are the bathrooms?
C)are you busy?

These are all DAILY OCCURENCES and NOT EXAGGERATIONS.

DO NOT THINK YOU CAN ABUSE US BECAUSE ONE OF THESE DAYS ONE OF US IS GOING TO SNAP AND WE CARRY RAZORS TO OPEN BOXES AND $7/HOUR IS NOT A LOT TO WALK AWAY FROM.

And of course retailers do hire a good amount of morons because of the pay, limited hours and poor benefits. Unfortunately a lot of times those morons escape their much deserved abuse because a member of the management steps in to defuse the situation.

I work in the Cell phone industry and let me tell you about Morons. I see them everyday all day. I called the cops on a customer after several times asking him to bring his voice back down to a professional level. His reply " The customer is always right and I am not lowering my voice." My response, " Sir you need to leave the store. His reply" Hell NO! I spend $40 bucks a month on your plans ( almost screaming thinking that I have customers who spend 300.00 a month on family and business plans who never complain)." "Sir I am calling the police." Needless to say he left. I do not get paid enough to babysit every Tom, ####, and Jane who comes into my store and yells at me. If a customer talks in a professional tone he/she will more likely get anything they want within reason. Now as for the morons working in stores, trust me I work with plenty of them. All of my officemates call me for spec answers. Also, as to Best Buy...it is a jungle in there...They should have a sign stating ....Enter at Your Own Risk...Bring your own knowledge or suffer dire consquences...!!!!!!!!!

I've actually had great experiences with the employees of most stores. Just yesterday I went to Best Buy and a guy named Andrew was a great help. We had questions about iPods, cell phones, CD burning, etc and he was able to answer most questions and if he didn't know the answer he found someone who did. Awesome experience, I learned lots and was convinced to buy or not buy some things for good reasons. :) lol

I also went to the Apple store today and got great help. Of course, everyone knew what they were talking about, and they were willing to answer any questions or concerns we had and if we didn't like something, they would direct us toward something we might like better. They weren't in your face asking "CAN I HELP YOU?" either, but if you looked lost they'd come over and say something like, "I see you're looking at *insert item here*." and see if they wanted help.

I think some stores don't care if their employees know anything about the section to which they are assigned but these two stores (in my area at least) are great about hiring and/or training their employees. :)
