Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Or you might run into "burnt" LCD screen in a couple of weeks...
I used left my iPod on deck for like 2-3 days (most of the time it showed "don't disconnect" thing). Today decided to play a bit of "Brick" and noticed burned in "don't disconnect" circle that looks like ( / )
Here's pics.
First take a look at this one

Now remember the circled area and take a look at unedited pic, you'll notice white half-circle.

It looks more obvius in person, but i couldn't capture it very good with my camera..

Try using the sleep function - this will ensure you don't get burn-in, and saves battery too.

if its mounted on the computer it wont go into sleep mode, you need to unmount it.

is it me or do i not see anything wrong with the screen...
# 4 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
theres a faint circle, look in 2nd pic its easier to see. in the ipod photo theres a red circle with a diagonal line in and text "Do not disconnect"
# 5 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I don't see anything either.
# 6 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I honestly don't see a difference between either...
# 7 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Can't see anything...

# 8 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I can see a faint white circle, I think, in the second one. It's pretty hard to see, if it is indeed there.
# 9 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I thought LCD's didn't burn in...
# 10 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Send it back to Apple then?
# 11 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
apple might just say they don't see anything and send it back.

Technically you're right.

I thought only plasmas have burn in problems.
# 14 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
It took me a minute, but I saw a very(super) faint bottom left hand of the circle.

Same here. That's really weird, as Tomo_kun says, LCD's shouldn't burn in.
# 16 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Yeah well I see a slight difference when I look very close, its difficult to take a good picture of it I can imagine, but anyway its very bad.. thanx for the warning, I hope u find a way to get repairs. tried mailing apple service about this problem ?
I always remove it from the dock when its fully charched, cuz I still think its bad for the battery life, anyone disagree on that or might know something I dont ?
# 17 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
that sucks man. it's hard to see but it's there. hopefully, it's not more defined in person. i think you should get it fixed since you paid a hefty sum for it.

LCD screen does not burn in, but it can have dead pixels. But, there's usually only one pixel that are dead and comes back after a few days and work as it should. So, the LCD screen shouldn't burn in. It could be just dead pixel that will go away in a few days or so.
# 19 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
This thread has terrified me, and I now take my iPod out of the dock when I'm not playing it. Anyone think Apple will make a fix that turns the LCD and charging symbols off when fully charged?

# 20 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I think that either A) It had nothing to do with the dock or B) This is a VERY iscolated incident. I wouldn't be scared.
EDIT: All right, it's a little freaky. But I don't really see anything...so this would NOT happen on a regular iPod, right? (Not photo)
# 21 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Is there no way to turn off the fully charged battery symbol while sitting in the dock?
# 22 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
Definitely a strange problem, but in my case I've been leaving my iPod photo in the dock every night since I first bought it (about six weeks ago). I've had not even the slightest indication of burn-in problems, so I have to assume this is an isolated incident (as others have pointed out, LCD screens shouldn't burn in anyway).
Further, the iPod stops charging once the battery is fully charged (as with most modern LiOn devices), so there should be no harm to battery life in leaving the device in the dock either.
# 23 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
I guess i'll leave my 2 cents. Every night, my iPod Photo sits inside it's nice little dock connected to some surround sound speakers and it acts as an alarm clock in the morning. Since I bought my iPod Photo my 4g 40gig has been sitting in the dock doing nothing. (7 weeks?) I just pulled it out. I see no signs of burn in, and it still functions as it should. I wouldn't be afraid to leave the Photo in the dock. Hasn't caused me any harm.

# 24 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
OK for a start, as a lot of you pointed out correctly, LCDs don't "burn-out" as far as I know, this is only a problem with CRT displays and Plasma TVs. I can see the markings in the photo that you described and this is due to the liquid crystals having a "memory". This happens rarely with modern displays, but it's not serious. I have been told that a way to remedy this problem is to display the negative of the "Do not disconnect" screen until the crystals' "memory" has disappeared.
Bear in mind that all this does is give all the other crystals the same memory effect. The memory effect disappears over time, so all the crystals will return to their original state. If you can put up with the way your display looks at the moment, just wait a while and see if the crystals revert. Make sure you don't leave it in the dock with the same message displaying otherwise you'll see no difference.
Just keep in mind that you won't damage your iPod by leaving it in the dock. Apple have been making these iPods for a few years now and they haven't released any notices to the contrary... so don't worry.
Ben.

How else would a person plan on charging from the computer? The harddrive is spinning whenever that 'OK to Disconnect' screen isn't showing. It could easilly overheat and fry your 'Pod.

# 27 Re: Dont leave your iPod on the dock all the time
The hard drive doesn't always spin when its at the "DND" screen anyway, only when the icon is spinning in the upper left hand corner.

 Do you enjoy living a life of fear?
You're saying "Oh if I actually use my iPod it'll overheat and explode! Better wrap it up in bubblewrap and leave it in a drawer then"
