hi there, hoping someone can help with this obscure problem

basically, for some reason my main hard drive (powerbook g4 12", 10.4.9) keeps setting itself as "invisible". now, i can reset this manually using file buddy but for some reason it keeps getting reset to invisible...

so... does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or how i could find the source of the problem? it appears to go invisible after a log out/log in so is there any logging system which might give me clues?
