10.3.5 issues

im running into the following on my pbook ti 800 15"

airport range is DRASTICALLY reduced

everytime i mount an smb share from win2k & try to copy
a large file say 300mb or so the whole os locks up
i have to hard reset the pbook every single time
tried an smb share from linux & same thing os x just locks
up hard...i cant even get to a term window & kill the copy

so far the update is proving to be a real pain in the ass
& yes ive done all the usual mac crap of verifying/resetting
etc...unix should NOT lock up this bad

i also tried to copy the above file via ftp & same prob
hdware check shows the hdd is fine

anyone else having issues ?

Havent had any problems. I ran YASU right after the update-ran cron, updated prebinding(whatever the hell that means) and repaired permissions.

Prebinding your dynamic libraries makes them depend on the system's current library versions and locations. This makes the executable faster when it is starting, but library versions and locations are liable to change between OS versions. When library versions and locations change, the prebinding information is no longer valid and is ignored. From that point on, the prebinding information is just taking up space.

etc ect etc,,,

linkers & loaders by john levine is a good book if your technically
oriented

Which is why it is then *updated*... every time you see 'Optimizing...' after an install, it is updating that information for all libraries and apps.

One of our Powermacs couldn't mount disk images and audio CDs after the update. It seems the 10.3.5 software update was missing a few crucial files.

In order to get the missing files, I've downloaded the 10.3.5 combined update from the Apple Website on a unaffected computer, mounted the image, burned the image to a CD, then installed the combined update on the affected computers using the CD.

Everything works now.

It's been a mystery to me why sometimes the "Combined" updater is better then the standalone. There isn't anything bad it could do?

Ah well...this has finally been one update where nothing changed. That is good. :)
