If you use the optical output [g5] to bring out the audio from a DVD of your powermac ....

does your receiver control the audio recording type and play it accordingly? (DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1)

or

does DVD player in OS X have to be capable of decoding those audio streams first, before the receiver?
