Studio DV ( http://www.formac.com/p_bin/?cid=solutions_converters_studiodvtv)
I've had this for a couple of years now. Works well with any Firewire equipped Mac.

That looks like a nice solution. Now I just need to replace my PowerBook with a PowerMac... ;)
I hear the El Gato 200 is a nice FireWire box that lets you watch and record TV on your Mac as well. Because it is FireWire-based, you can use it with a PowerBook too. But it's more expensive than the Miglia PCI card.

Anyone know of a program that would basically be a timer to start recording from the firewire port? I'd like to record TV on my Mac, but I've got no liquid assets at the moment. I've already got a DV converter though, I just need something to start capturing at a particular time.
