Whats your fancy (boozewise)

I'd be surprised if the majority of this forum is even old enough to legally drink. Thius being both a forum for American and British users reminds me of a stragne story (not funny) of when my German cousins came over one time. There is either no drinking age or it;s very low in Germnay (don't remember which), and Tom (15) tried to order some nice wine to go with his steak, and the waitress fairly icily said "We do not serve alcohal to minors." John was okay with this, but his father... man, he went into coniptions over the lie of American freedoms... very strange.

As a Frenchman, I prefer Pastis. Needless to say that I had a very hard time with the drinking age and dogpiss beer when I moved to the US. There's a few things I still can't stand, even after 7+ years here. The drinking age is high on my blacklist. Others include the ridiculously low speed limits, (how the **** are you supposed to drive 3000 miles cross country at 65 mph?) and the silly imperial system of measurement. (Why on earth would water freeze at 32 deg F instead of 0 deg C? How many feet in a mile? 3/16 of an inch? Give me a break!)

For champagne, my favorite alcoholic beverage, I love the good old widow, <a href="http://www.veuve-clicquot.fr" target="_blank">Veuve Clicquot</a>.

For beers, I've taken a liking to the local <a href="http://www.foggybottom.com" target="_blank">Foggy Bottom</a> Lager. I also enjoy Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

For hard liquor, anything with Vodka is ok by me. No headaches!

I wish I was more knowlegeable about wine. Maybe when I grow older...

I'll drink most any imported beer.. and I like dry Italian wines.

For general "get drunk" drinking I like Vodka but only Smirnoff.

Do you get Aftershock in the USA??

In Winter, Cognac is my, uh, "cup of tea" so to speak. I think I like it more for the smell than the taste, but a really good Cognac properly warmed can, as pscates said, make ya "toasty" inside. Roger-ramjet is right, there's just something about sniffing a snifter under a quilt in front of the fire on a cold winter's night...

I love a good champagne (and yes, I am one of those snooty people who insists that real champagne is from France) almost any time. I'm not a big champagne drinker though; I don't have several fills of the flute in a sit.

I also like a gin and tonic on occasion. Ingredients: gin, tonic, lime. That last one is the "secret" ingredient I guess.

I've tried to like beer more, but I really don't unless I'm really really parched. Of course at that point, worm piss would serve me fine, and that's pretty much what I get. I had what I recall as being amazingly decent beers in Prague some time ago, but again I was on my feet running all over the damn town for 8 hours at a time.

I hate pretty much all that stuff under tiny parasols. I've never been a big fan of sweet stuff, nor do I like the idea of "hiding" the alcohol under all that stuff. If I order alcohol, I expect it to show up.

These two drinks were invented by yours truly in my dorm room during Monon Bell and kick ass.

(Have a friend stand over you, lean your head back and open mouth. Friend pours margarita mix, then tequila, then more margarita mix. You close mouth at this point, shake, and swallow)

Also my Pina Coladas are the best on campus.

And who said anything about drinking legally?

I really get excited over a Smirnoff Ice. It's a pre-mixed Smirnoff Vodka Lemonade in a bottle. I toss a couple in the freezer for 40 minutes so they're just on the verge of freezing. Delicious.

I'm also partial to Corona. I do the same freezer thing, have the timing down to a science (with my fridge anyway). I take it out just a hair below freezing, pop the cap off, then immediately drop a good sized lime wedge in. The beer is so cold that the lime drops to the bottom immediately, then ice crystals start to form on it. It slowly expands upward so the whole beer is engulfed in about 30 seconds - it's really cool to see. I take a few swings before it's all iced up, and after about 3-4 minutes it's fully drinkable. Cold as hell, and freakin' delicious.

Whatever I drink, it's gotta be COLD. I don't think I ever drink anything (if possible) that hasn't spent some time in the freezer.

last nite it was WAY TOO MUCH whiskey and lemonade. and if you doubt me look at the posts I made here in the early hours of the morning, now they are coming back to haunt me ... that and a hang over.

Well, for beer, there's McEwan's Scotch Ale. Simply the finest beer in the world. Bar none.

And I love a good single malt scotch. The best I've had to date is Lagavulin. Mmmm...

I love Myer's Dark Rum and Mount Gay Spiced Rum and Coke/Pepsi... Preferrably a 60/40 split for rum and coke, respectively.

I also love a good cabernet with my sghetti. Mondavi and Gallo Reserve and Sebastiani vineyards are all fine.

Spirits: Vodka and lime or CC and dry

Beer: These days if I find myself drinking a brew , it'll usually be on a Friday night after work - and even then it's a light :o usually a Cascade Premium Light (tassie beer from downunder... not quite sure if that's the correct name actually)

Jeez - I remember the days when I used to think drinking light beer was a waste of time and money... what happened?

Alcohol is good for you. It helps keep weak brain cells from spreading.
