Going back to 10.2.2 from 10.2.4
posted the same thing at the Apple boards, thought i'd just see if someone here knew the answer.
OK, so I've installed 10.2.4 on two machines now. Since then I've noticed a handful of new things.
1. The battery life on my PB is terrible now. That is not good.
2. I can no longer connect to a wide variety of windows shares. When I try to connect I get a (-36) error and it can't connect. This has been the case since 10.2.3, and it's not just me. The problem is campus wide at our University, and no one has figured out a solution yet.
3. I now have page-ins all the time. Used to have 0, now I have thousands.
4. Apps. now take an extremely long time to launch. Apps. that used to launch in a second now take 20-30 seconds to launch.
So, what would be the best way to go BACK to 10.2.2 from 10.2.4? I'd rather not reformat these machines if I don't have to. Anyone know of a way to do it without reformatting the drive?
I tried installing the old update but that wouldn't run.

Your best bet is to get your 10.2 CD, boot from it and do a clean system install.

you need to repair permissions. I have seen no such slowdown on my Ti400. Only prtoblem I have is the date problem.

And you should be using Sharoty for connecting to windows servers anyway.

I'm glad I still haven't upgraded to 10.2.4.

Well I have to dissagree here. Yes I know there is a problem with the clock on some macnines, but I always enable the network time server so that is not realy a problem. Otherwise it is without a doubt the best update yet.

I was having several problems, the most frustrating of which was a problem keeping my internet apps working. I was constantly having to quit and restart Safari and Mail. I was also seeing a slowdown of launch times, etc...
My new iMac came with 10.2.3 and I haven't had a single problem. I won't be upgrading any time soon.

i have to say 10.2.4 has been fine for me as well... no problems i can think of off the top of my head... but of course i have used so many hacks on the system it would probably be my fault anyway... ;)

I haven't had any real problems with 10.2.4 either. But regarding going back to 10.2.2, I don't think you can downgrade without doing a clean install. I think even trying to do an Archive install with a 10.2 cd would tell you that you can't because of the newer version.

I enable the network time too, I don't care about the time problem. It just seems that a lot of people have been having problems and 10.2.3 works fine for me so I'll stick with it for now.

i'll give sharity a shot. otherwise i might just go back to 10.2.2
i have yet to see a sinlgle benefit to 10.2.4, and i've repaired disk permissions already.
i was rather annoyed when i couldn't connect to smb drives anymore. nothing in that update was worth that.

Archive install worked for me when my 10.2.4 system got corrupted and I had to reinstall. My iBook came with 10.2.1 CDs, they worked fine. It would be pretty stupid if you had to completely wipe the HD if you ever had problems in a system that had received minor updates.
