Yep, IE 5.0 Mac Problems...

Confusing. A few questions. Have you rebuilt the desktop as suggested? If so have you completely deleted Explorer and its prefrences and reloaded it fresh? If so then I am unsure. anything new installed? extension conflict?

Tell you what, ZAP the PRAM, Zero all Data and reload your OS, Rebuild that new desktop, then Load all the patches and upgrades, load the new version of IE 5, then put on OS X, load it's updates and patches, and load the latest Mozilla. Problem solved. :D

Ah IE and OE open at the same time. Like two cars trying to occupy the same space at the same time. Can't help :( just comiserate. In 9.x they were (for me) a recipe for disaster, playing with fire, asking to lock up the whole system. It's what prompted me out of OE and into Eudora. Even now in OS X, IE crashes two ways. First is it just quits. That's the nicest way cuz it doesn't force the 3 finger salute. The other way is when it doesn't even Force Quit. That's not a IE issue I think, as it's happened with other apps. Still, IE is so much faster than OmniWeb at present that I'm using it 90 % of the time.

good on ya then sine :) guess it rains harder here. the force quit thing doesn't happen every day but it happens. and please point me to SP 10 because compared to IE 5.1.3, OmiWeb 4.0.6 craawls... :confused:

Oh I agree... IE 5.1.3 IS faster than 4.0.6

But the SPs of 4.1 a A LOT faster.

I had IE5 hard crashes a lot a while back, and I was very surprised when I finally discovered and confirmed the cause:

Too many bookmarks.

That's right. If you have a lot of bookmarks (I never did an actual count, but if you have more than a few dozen or so, it seems) IE will often randomly crash hard, usually after running for a while. So unless you're willing to move to OS X, you'll have to reduce the number of bookmarks you have.

It took me for ever to track this bug down because it took time to replicate, but I became sure that was the case. You can feel free to perform your own experiments. I remain absolutely amazed at MS's lack of ANY bugfixes to IE 5.0 for OS 9 since summer of LAST YEAR. *sigh* If only it weren't the browser with my favorite featureset out there! :(

IE is just plain buggy, under OS 9 or X.

Under OS 9, it would usually freeze up the system for nearly a minute while processing large pages, such as my Amazon.com Wish List. ;) Also, if it failed to load a page for some reason (like unable to find a server's DNS entry), it would always crash when you tried to quit.

Under OS X, if it fails to find a site, it begins having trouble loading any bookmarks you have in your Favorites. Seems to act like you never clicked on them in the menu. Also, it tends to get a spinning beachball more often than it should.

And in both versions, I've found a bad crashing bug. If a download is in progress when the program crashes, and you then relaunch IE and try to download again, it has two copies of the download running. If you try to delete the first one while the second is running, it kills IE in a heartbeat.

There is application - Outlook Express 6 repair (http://www.oemailrecovery.com/repair-outlook-express.html), but i don't know exactly, may be work with Mac, it know how extract e-mails from Outlook Express dbx file, save the repaired Outlook Express messages on disk, Support *.dbx file formats: MS Outlook Express 5/6, repairing Outlook Express folders with a size up to 4Gb, restore of the attached files are obligatory.
