Major Disaster All Songs Gone From PC PLEASE HELP!
I recently lost 1,500 + songs off of my pc (windows XP) I don't know how, but possibily the consolidate button was pressed, as all the missing music seems to be in "My Music". This morning the remaining songs have disappeared off of the PC so itunes is empty ! The consolidate button def. hasn't been touched this morning. System restore doesn't help.
I downloaded podutil, but this has also gone with the restore. I'm really getting confused now & don't know what to do next. My original problem with following the tutorial to restore ipod music to PC itunes, was I didn't know the itunes path to ask it to copy to. Now itunes is empty will podutil offer me different questions if I load it? I really need help!!

Have you done a search on your PC for files with the extension mp3 or whatever format your tunes were in?
If the tunes really are gone your only real option would be a third party disc restore program that will find and recover deleted files or take your PC to a disaster recovery company if you are really keen.
Be warned. If your files have actually been deleted you need to get on to this straight away as every time you use the PC there is a chance of your old files being overwritten and lost forever.

recently got a virus that eliminated all my songs too, including pictures and the folder 'my documents'
I tried system restore but nothing happened, I tried it twice, first going back 1 day, then 1 week.......still nothing
I downloaded about 4 different programs, all seemed great but they were $69.99. the solution was to download a program called "tune-up utilities" this can un-delete one specific file, or all of them......the thing is that it recovers EVERYTHNG you have erased (more than 20 000 files), so it takes time
just download it asap, because the files get overwritten, (I just recovered 75% of my files)

consolidate wouldnt make them dissapear from your pc. It would move it to whatever your iTunes folder is from other places on the computer.
Have you reinstalled using repair? that should tell you if the files are on there or not, and if they are it should bring them into iTunes
