Is my Itrip defective?
I just got a Itrip for my 4G Ipod and it had terrible reception so I decided to try a Irock battery powered fm transmiter and the reception was amazing. It was cd clear and worked in the car in front and back of me. Is the itrip just less powerful or could mine be defective?? I would like to get it to work since it fits better with the ipod. Thanks.

all fm transmitters have the same strength due to the limits posed by the FCC. Are you sure you had each device on the same frequency. I myself have an iTrip and have always found it to be good.

I've been avoiding iTrip since the day it came out.
I got one the other day and I took it back the next day.
That was about the worst piece of equipment I ever bought.
Regular tape adapter for car use works a lot better.

I had very positive experience with the iTrip. I was skeptical that it would work and, for a moment, was considering an alternative like the cassette tape adapter. Boy, that would have been a mistake! The iTrip works beautifully. I live in Orange county, CA, with crowded air waves and the iTrip's default setting at 87.9FM station works just great.
If you are thinking of getting alternatives, you owe it to yourself to at least give the iTrip a try. Try to buy from a local place so you can at least return if it does not work well.

I have had an iTrip for nearly three months now and i find it works very well, not perfect but very good in both of my family cars.

Same situation here - also get good reception around Melbourne.
What part of melbourne are you in? What frequency do you use?

i'm in melbourne too (south-east), and thinking of getting one. what frequency you guys use?
# 10 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
I have only heard bad tghings about iTrip. I was going to get one, but after gogling it, I am waiting for a better product
# 11 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
Its really down to your area, to find out whether it'd be good, search the frequencies it supports, if you have lots of static, then it'd work well.
This is my guess, I don't own one so couldn't say

I'm up in the North West, and find that 99.9 and 100.7 work extremely well.
I'm not sure about the other guy, hope he replies

yeah im in the north east of melbourne sort of on the edge of the suburbs/rural. The reception is pretty clear on any station, i even find that the iTrip can be put right over the top of some stations and come out clear. I use 100.6 or 98.6, apparently its good to be in the middle of the band for true stereo output.
# 14 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
yeah 100.7 also works well
# 15 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
ah, cool. i think i'll probably end up getting an i-trip.
i just wish it could be used with other devices...that's the thing that has me considering other transmitters.
if only i could find someone who has one to borrow and test out. the only people i know who have them are interstate.
the apple stores wouldn't let you try one out would they...
# 16 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
I just received one from Amazon.com yesterday and it's on its way back today. I think I'll stick with a tape adapter for now.
# 17 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
They might if you go into the city stores, it's worth a try, anyway
# 18 Re: Is my Itrip defective?
What you have to remember about the iTrip, and all the people that are sending it back, is to have the iPod's volume between 50-70%. Otherwise it will distort or not be audible.
Keep that in mind, and you will have happy 'Trippin!

I originally had a no-name FM xmitter that i got for 10 bux and it was AWFUL--you're going to get snap crackle and pop for all of them but this one was horrible..so much static...i finally gave in and got the itrip and what a difference
like snowy said you have to make sure and keep the volume down otherwise it becomes distorted..i live in NYC and we have NO available stations, and it works great on 87.9--with any wireless device, though, you're going to have interference...i find that my itrip works a lot better than the FM xmitter on my sirius
a lot of people were complaining about the sound quality of the sirius FM xmitters--there's something called the SIRSWB which plugs directly into your antenna input on the back of your radio..so basically its a hard wired fm xmitter..your regular antenna then gets plugged into this device, so when you turn on your unit, it cancels out FM, and you get a direct connection with no interference...i wonder if we'll ever see anything like this for ipod
