Can you restate your problem?
Heres what i got:
You got a new laptop and put the songs on it over the network. (I'm assuming everything is XP Pro) At that point i have no idea what the hell you said.
I'm thinking that your problem is that your music files are just linked over the network, not actually on your computer, which is a bad idea.
Because:
PC->cat 5 cable->Router/Switch->Cat 5 cable->Laptop HD->XP->iTunes ->Mini.
As opposed to:
Laptop HD->iTunes->Mini.
Hopefully thats it, if not restate please.

i'm so sorry i wasn't clear but the problem is so strange!
I have all my music stored in my pc. Now I have a laptop too and they're connected via network. They're both XP.
I installed iTUNES on laptop and imported the songs from PC and it worked fine. I could play the music uisng iTUNES on laptop and still music is stored in PC.
I connected the iPOD with laptop. First problem was that iTUNES (on laptop) could'nt see the tracks on iPOD. Second when I tried to transfer... it seemed to transfer the songs but actually nothing happened. Third it displayed that i have 70GB of HD!! Even when I opened the iPOD to restore it displayed that it have 70GB!!!!
I just REALLY can't understand this!!!

# 4 Re: i REALLY need HELP!
hello all
i thought i would post since i am befuddled with a similar issue
Pc is a Sony Vaio PCG-6C2L (VGN S100 i think) with iPod 40gb
After initial install itunes updated ipod successfully and music played fine from ipod
everytime ive connected since, itunes recognizes the ipod updates from the local library and when you check the ipod, none of the songs are actually there furthermore when you look at what itunes thinks the drive status is its about 53GB (roughly 13GB more than actual) So i took the library songs i wanted, copied them to another notebook (Toshiba) plugged in ipod and boom update is successfull and when you look on the ipod the music is actually there to be played. Same holds true on a Dell i tried it on. Funny enough same sorta thing happened just trying to plug a usb flash drive into the thing.
This is looking to be a Sony specific issue, i read somewhere in another thread about the ipod possibly only working on the rear usb port not on either of the 2 on the side, although this does not make much sense i am going to try this along with some Voodoo Magic and i will post if i can find a way to get it to work
