The "glitch" is a small problem with the flange tips falling off the earphone piece. Some people have reported that when they remove their earphones, the sleeve comes off the earphone part and remains in their ear. Obviously not a good thing to have happen :) I have a pair of ER-6i, and I must admit, the sleeves (but not so much the foams for some reason) became stuck in my ears a few times. It's not so bad for me since I have small ears and the sleeves are a bit too large anyway, so to remove them I simply grab some of the excess sleeve sticking out of my ear and pull. If your ears are larger, though, I can easily see them becoming lodged in there, requiring something more along the lines of tweezers to remove.

Etymotic's told me that modifed units are being made, and should be available soon, so I'm sure they will suffer from this problem less. (Hopefully!)

Are the ER-61's that much better than the E3c's?

Thanks.

Thanks so much dwchin! Do you think that the sleeves of the 'older' version will be OK to use in the 'revised' version?

I've been told that they are fully compatible. Here's a little quote from the email I received from Etymotic: "We are modifying the ER-6i earphones which should accommodate both the 3-flanged supplied and small 2-flanged eartips."

The 2-flanged smaller tips aren't available yet, but my email initially inquired about those because I have smaller ear canals, haha. From the looks of it though, existing sleeves should work fine with any modified versions of the earphones which are going to be released.

I can't really answer your question, sbernard. I have been very satisfied with the ER-6i, personally. I listen to a wide variety of music, ranging from Jazz and Classical to Punk, Rock, etc. Some people have reported the bass on the Shures to be better in general than bass on ER-6i, but I think it all boils down to personal taste. Why don't you check out this Head-Fi thread, conveniently titled "The final question to the e3c vs. er-6i poll" (http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=90256) . There are MANY more threads like this on Head-Fi (and here at ipodlounge) if you search for them, and you can find comparisons between ER-6i and ER-4P/S, Shure earphones, or even Sony MDR-EX51/71LP's. Hope that helps you....

You have to remember though, that the people over at Headfi are very "audiophile-ish". They bash on anything that does not give crisp clear defined sound.

The E2s and E3s sound warmer, fuller, and offer a more pleasant listening experience in my opinion. The Ety's, as a general rule, and very accurate, and defined, and can almost be described as "thinner" in sound than the Shure's.

If I was listening to music for the ability to pick out distinct sounds and instruments, very accurately, i would pick the Etys.

If I was listening to music for the enjoyment, I would pick the Shures.

Very true... Head-Fiers don't generally have much appreciation for earphones such as the Sony's, for example. They're unclean and too boomy, apparently... I however like them quite a bit :) I use the Ety's for cleaner sound, and let's not forget that I also have a little amp I use from time to time which VASTLY improves the bass on the Ety's, in my opinion. (Not that it's bad without the amp...but there's a definite difference.) I have heard good and bad about the e3c, but then that can be said about any set of headphones or earphones. I guess it's difficult to judge based on others' recommendations :)

i haven't tried the er6i pre-revision
but let me tell you these are off the heezy..isolation galore
3flange = much better tip than er6

they just got them in @ J&R and i picked them up today
like william hung...'i have no regrets'

i saw the shure e3c on CL for 100 but based on what i've been reading, i'm more of a grado kinda guy than a senny guy

they indeed do look flimsy but these silicone tips enter into unchartered territory in my ear that q-tips never got to

i read somewhere that some guy posted he can't hear a starbucks frap machine with these puppies on..now i know why

batch ER 0435

The modified/fixed er-6i's are out now? I'm curious as to what changes they have made, if any. I suspect they'd have modified the parts that hold the foam/flange tips. Perhaps you can take some pics, if you have a camera?
