It's an incredibly general question, but here's some I like:
In-ear phones:
Shure E2c: ??60-80 depending on where you go.
Excellent in-ear phones, you can search for impressions.
Etymotic ER-6i: About ??100 all in from the US.
No personal impressions on these in-ear phones as I've just ordered it. Search should yield plenty of results.
Shure E3c: About ??100 all in from the US. Clearer sounding than the E2c and more comfortable for most people.
Headphones:
Sennheiser HD25-1: ??100-??130 depending on where you go.
The best compromise in full-sized portable headphones as far as I'm concerned. Sounds clear, punchy. Keeps out a lot of outside noise. Lightweight, throwable into a bag and is robust. Looks 'old school'.
Sony MDR-V700DJ: ??70-??100 depending on where you go.
Very bassy. OK sound quality (not as good as the HD25-1) but fun sounding and actually goes quite well with the iPod's sound signature. Looks good on most heads and folds for storage. Heavy though and quite bulky, and IMO less comfortable than the HD25-1.
Ultrasone HFI-650: ??100-??130 depending in where you go.
Delivers extremely punchy and 'slappy' bass and accurate sound. Keeps a good deal of outside noise out. Looks a bit goofy. Even bulkier than the Sony V700.
If you're using your iPod out and about, Grados are out. If you're mainly using them indoors in quiet places. the Grado SR80's a good choice.
