This might be the lamest question ever.
I just read everything on how to make an ipod work with windows 98 but I have no clue where to find anything. I have a 3rd generation ipod and have no clue where I'm supposed to look for "updater". Is it on the cd that came with my ipod? I looked and it wasn't there. My ipod says it's connected and my computer says it's connected, just that it doesn't have the drivers to go with it.
If someone could explain this to me in baby steps I would bake you some cookies, or be really greatful.

Updater- First go to 'start' then look in the menu for the iPod and put your pointer on it & the sub menu will open & you should see it.
If the updater is not there, then go to apple.com support section & download the firmware upgrade.

There is no ipod in the start menu. That's where I'm having the problem. I have no clue how to get any of the stuff onto my computer.
I'm running a custom made computer. When windows starts up it detects the ipod but it says that it cannot locate any drivers for it.

The disk that came with your iPod did you install it?
There is also a thread on the iPod and Windows 98SE. You need to go there and read it. It gives info on drivers and I think a link also. Also you said your using Windows 98 and not 98SE. I don't think it will work with 98 only 98SE. Go to the forum >windows>general. I think thats where it is.

I am running windows 98se and I did read the thread. I followed the directions and when I put the updater on my computer it's just a grey square that says ipod not connected.
I'll read the thread again in case I missed something.

Yea, try removing usb/firewire device in safe mode and then restarting.
