Combo cardbus problems?
I just purchased the 15gb iPod and tried to set it up using my Dell laptop and Windows XP. I purchased an IOgear USB/Firewire combo carbus for my laptop as I only have USB 1 built-in. I've had trouble getting the iPod to work at all - to the point that it has now crashed completely, giving me the folder and exclamation point only on the screen. When I did get some response from it to the PC, it said unable to mount and then no longer recognized that it was even plugged in. Has anyone had similar problems? Does anyone have the IOGear card and have it worked successfully? Is there a better combo card out there? I need the USB connectivity for my external hard drive.
Thanks.

# 1 Re: Combo cardbus problems?
FYI...
Here's follow-up to my own question for those interested...after spending several hours on the phone with tech support (who were extremely patient and helpful) it was determined that my new 15gb iPod was either, a) dead on arrival, or b) there was a cardbus firewire problem. So the solution was to either take it to the Apple store and/or try a new card...so I returned the IOGear card and purchased the Adaptec DueConnect combo card...reinstalled everything again and this time the iPod formatted without a problem and fired up like it's supposed to!
Moral of the story - don't use the IOGear card. Actually, according to Apple, you shouldn't use any card that is not listed here (i.e. certified by Windows):
www.windows.com/windows/catalog
Then under Hardware tab, then under Other Hardware, then under 1394 Controllers.
Hope this helps someone else out there in distress.
