Newbie question, please help....thanks

Please choose the appropOkay, sorry if this is a total newbie issue but I need some help.

Lets say?just hypothetically of course, that a guy got a new 40 gig windows iPod. Then lets say this guy was at a buddies and ?borrowed? 20 or so gigs of music ?just to try it out the new pod? before he purchased his own music.

Yes he copied the files over as files using the iPod as a HD, and yes he understands the iPod will not recognize them as music (if there is a fix to this I don?t know about please do tell!!)

Okay, so the simple solutions would be to plug the iPod into his own computer, swap the music out to the computers HD, erase it off the iPod, then upload it again to the iPod via iTunes?I get that, the trick is ?his? computer only has a few gigs of space left.

What is a guy to do?

1) Is there a way to get the iPod to recognize the tunes it is already storing as data files?

2) Is there a way to download say 1.5 gigs to the computer, erase the corresponding files from the iPod, THEN upload them back via iTunes. THEN, erase that 1.5 off the computer and start the process over again? If he does this, will iTunes erase the first 1.5 off the iPod when he goes to upload the second 1.5 since the originals will no longer be on the computer?

?He? is very confused? please help and thanks if you do.

riate forum for this topic. Thank you.

Yes there is a way to do number 2. That's what I recommend. Import the files into iTunes from the iPod, and then delete them off your iPod. Afterwards, sync the iPod with iTunes, and everything should work. Good Luck!

Hey thanks for the reply...

I am still not clear though, sorry.

lets say you upload 10 tunes from a laptop to an iPod.

Then you erase those 10 tunes from the laptop and load a different set of 10 on the laptop, adding them to the library in iTunes.

The next time you update the iPod, will iTunes leave the original already loaded 10 tunes on the iPod AND add the new 10?

OR

Will iTunes, erase the original ten from the iPod since they no longer exist on the laptop, and then upload the new ten?

This is the important point to make clear before erasing the original 10 tunes.

Does that make the question clearer?

Thanks again for any help possible.

If you have your ipod set to automatically update with your itunes library, then yes the original songs will be deleted from your ipod. If you set your ipod to manually manage your songs, then no. Hope that helps.
