Improving bass sound

How do I get deep bass sound from the ipod using iTunes 4.5? Right now I have enabled the Sound Enhancer in iTunes Preferences, then I import the music (using mp3, 256kbps, VBR, 44.1kHz, stereo, joint stereo). Do I also need to select and Equalizer setting in iTunes (like Loudness) before I download everything to the ipod? I'm using Sony MDR-V150 headphones.

Bass reproduction will be more a case of how good your soundcard and speakers/headphones are than down to iTunes itself.

However, if you want to tweak the frequencies that are emphasised, then yeah, the equalizer is your best bet.
