poor quality transfer

I'm having real problems with the sound quality of my mp3 files. I rip them from CD & send them to my iPod (using volume leveling), but when I play them, I get random loud 'popping' on the tracks, often making the song impossible to listen to.

This can happen on any song, although it seems rock n roll & jazz are the worst affected (no comments on my musical taste please). I can't predict which songs are going to 'pop'.

More bizarrely, when I create a playlist, certain songs develop this distortion:
For example, playing, say, Jonny B. Goode from 'Browse > Songs > Jonny B. Goode' sounds fine, but when it plays from 'Playlists > Rock n Roll...', it's developed pops.

Any suggestions, 'cause it's driving me nuts!
cheers

Did you check the help guide in MMJB? It does say something about sound distortion and what to do about it, also check the website support. It's been a long while since I used MMJB and I don't remember what it said to do.

I have seen this happen too. It usually happens when I rip multiple cds one after another. I just shut down MM and relaunch it which clears the problem. BUT I am thinking about using another ripper. What did you do to fix this?

I'm still having the problem, but interesting point with the multiple CD thing; I'll look into it.

But I also get it when creating playlists, taking tracks already on the iPod & putting them into playlists, and the popping gets worse.

cheers

I've had these same problems, using MMJB. About 5% of the tracks I've ripped have distortion in them. I've since switched to iTunes, but the amount of ripping I've done using this program is so small that I can't say for sure that iTunes solves the problems. None of the re-ripped tracks have any problems.

at the risk of sounding like an iTunes bore, I switched to it recently, and havehad no problems. The popping has gone totally.

And it's a fantastic programme. I'm converted (I know this is heresy on a MM board, but there you go).
