ripping speeds and manual updates etc

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Hi,

i'm new to all things ipod (PC) so i have a couple of questions (and i have tried to work these out for myself)

1. When importing music into the itunes Library there is a display which indicates the time remaining, but it also has another number that seems to indicate ripping time ie (5.3x), this figure changes depending on the song being transfered. What is this? My CD Rom drive is much faster than that!

2. How does one remove songs from your hard drive but not loose them from the ipod when you hook it up?

3. How do you manually update ur ipod when the 'Manually manage songs and playlists' box is checked in ipod preferences?

Thanks for any help,

PS i think the sound on the ipod is magnificent, used to have a Sony MD and it was rather questionable at times.

First of all welcome, and I see you're from Australia :) I'm from there too lol.

1 - ripping speed is also dependent on cmoptuer speed, to encode the cd track into aac/mp3 or whatever.

2 - you need to change snc mode (right click iPod, and then iPod options or something) and change it to Manual. You now have to manage music manually, but you can delete files off your computer

3 - basically you need to drag and drop playlists etc. you act like iPod is another library, you can add files to it, make new playlists in it, and drag and drop playlists to it etc.

and I'm glad you enjoy sound more than Sony MD, most people find it the other way around :P
