Problem with iPod 2.2 updater and Panther -- (edit fixed)

I've been having a problem updating my iPod (3rd Gen, 30 GB) to firmware 2.2. It's a brand new iPod I just got back from Apple after sending my old one in for repair. It has 2.1 on it now. I'm running 10.3.3 and iTunes 4.5.

Both iTunes and the Finder recognize my iPod, but the updater does not. It keeps asking me to connect an iPod. I've checked all my system settings and the iPod is operating normally otherwise. I've checked the Apple site forums, and found the document below, and followed its instructions but the problem remains.

It's not terribly important for me to update my firmware, because I don't plan to use Apple's Lossless encoder and the use of the new graphic equalizer preferences would be nice, but isn't essential. However, if I don't update I won't be able to use the new smart playlist features or the "grouping" tag fix.

Is anyone else having this problem that could enlighten me to a possible solution?

Chris

Here's a big "nevermind" to all of you in iPod Lounge land. I let my system sit for a while with my iPod disconnected, and low and behold the updater now recognizes my Pod and it has successfully updated. I don't know if the fix Apple recommends was the actual solution or what, but my problem's resolved. I hope anyone else with the same problem finds this post useful.
