Multiplatform iTunes Soltution
I have recently purchased a mac laptop, having had a windows desktop with large hard drive and iPod.
Unfortunately this leavs me in a dilema as to where to store my music... The ideal soltution would be to have it on the ipod/windows computer, and not clog up my mac laptop.
However, this then means I can't use the greatness of iTunes on my ibook, when not on the same network as my pc.
Is there a solution which can let you play music directly of the ipod hard drive, using the database of itunes also?

Well, why don't you just do this:
Put your tunes on iTunes on the PC, manage your iPod throught the PC and sync there etc.
No, as far as playing tunes off of the Mac, just share your iTunes library on the Windows machine, and have the Mac iTunes search for Shared Music. If your computers are networked it should find the PC iTunes library and you'll be able to play an all from the Mac, just as if you were on the PC.
Make sense?

It does, and I am currently doing that.
However, IIRC, listening to the music shared doesn't update the iTunes library (with things like playcount, which can be useful for playlists), and when i'm away from the network, have my laptop and ipod, it'd be nice to use itunes interface rather than the ipod (there is nothing wrong with the ipod, its just having a mouse and being able to edit stuff is a lot more flexibile.
