iTunes WMA Import WINDOWS ONLY!?

I was looking at the information about WMA import on Apple's site (http://www.apple.com/itunes/import.html), and I noticed the following line:

Save to AAC from unprotected WMA (Windows only)

What!?

I just tried to import a WMA with iTunes on Mac OS X, and sure enough, it didn't work.

Somehow, I don't think I've read anything about this before. I am surprised about this. Is Apple really giving special features to Windows customers that their own customers don't get? They already gave Windows users exclusive USB 2.0 support, although I can't see why any Mac user would want that. The whole thing gives me dystopic visions of a future where Apple announces it is discontinuing the Macintosh and making the iPod Windows-only.

it isnt apples fault that they couldnt get a licensing agreement in place for protected WMA files. Maybe in the future they will have it, just not now.

This has nothing to do with protected WMA files. The file I tried is unprotected. I don't think importing works at all on a Mac.

yes it seems Apple was short-sighted... they prolly didnt believe that anyone on a Mac would have anything to do with the WMA format.

I'd like to see USB 2.0 syncing with Macs for one simple reason. My dock is connected not to my computer, but rather to my stereo in the other room. If I could use my USB cable for syncing, then I could keep the firewire cable permanently connected to the dock for charging. (I have an iPod mini, so it came with both cables.)

the reason it was involved with windows only is microsofts fault really since Windows comes with Windows media plyer by default which defaulty encodes to WMA format - apple wanted windows users to have a bit of conveniece to easilly use itunes. Mac users have itunes by default - no need.

Besides, windows users still are complaining about mac only features like iPhoto linkage and iCal usage...

Well, as evidenced in this thread, Apple's assumptions that we don't need certain features even though they let others have them, are false. I have WMA files I would like to convert (I already did using audio capture utilities, but Apple's method sounds better).
