iTunes usability

Hi there.
I have never had an ipod but intend on buying an ipod mini when they are released in the UK.
I downloaded iTunes for Windows XP just to play around and prepare myself. I use a few folders to store my downloaded music (I use limewire). My favourite music is stored in one folder and as I get bored of it, I simply move it into a different folder. I want to have itunes to be in sync with this folder so that whenever I delete, move or add a song to the folder itunes recognises it and adds/deletes the songs. Also I have all my music from my cd?s in my itunes library but these are stored in folders created by itunes when I burned them.
So basically the setup I want is ? all my cd?s on my ipod at all times. And a folder of my favourite downloaded songs that updates each time I plug in my ipod.
Hope you Understand
Thanks a load.
Jim

Ps. Is 5mb the same as 5000kb ? (bit dumb here cos I always get them mixed up !)

iTune does not "monitor" folders for changes, if you remove a file from a folder, you will need to remove the entry from iTune.

I would suggest letting iTune manage the actual files, and create playlists for your favorites tunes, and "bored" songs; moving one entry from one to the other.

You can also use ratings, and create smart playlists for songs with a high rating and low rating.

P.S. no, 5mb is bigger than 5000kb.

Ah ok :) thanks for the help.

Ok so 5mb is bigger. Whenever i Rip cds in iTunes it seems they are in mb's rather than kb's is there any way around this so that the song files are the same size as most mp3's i download (few thousand kb's)

Thanks
Jim

Understand one thing about iTunes and the iPod. They are not folder based. They are database based. By that I mean the they organize your tunes based off of the tags on them. You can edit the tags by selecting a song (or songs) and right-clicking and selecting "Get Info".

Also, it's really beneficial to turn on Browse mode in iTunes (click the "eye"). This will activate the Genre/Artist/Album panes at the top. Makes navigating much easier.

And as has been pointed out, you'll probably want to make Smartlists with rules like "haven't heard in the last 1 month" or Playcount < 20 to keep your tunes "fresh" that are on the iPod.

5MB is bigger than 5000KB's.. but you have to recognize how much "bigger" it really is.

1MB = 1024KB... so it's really close to 1000KB, just slightly bigger. For practical usage and purpose you can think of them as being equivalent.

So technically, no, 5MB is not equal to 5000KB's.. but they're literally the same thing. I think you were put under false impression that it is tremendously larger or something... but no, they're not, just a few KB's off from each other.
