itunes autoformatting my ipod playlist
Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I have several folders of music that consist of downloaded files which I am trying to load onto my ipod. I dump the individual folders into itunes, with everything seperated the way I want, but when I download to the ipod, all the songs get split into different folders, even though they are by the same artist and originated from the same folder. I'm guessing this has something to do with differences in the ID tags. Is there anyway to have itunes load the songs onto the ipod in the exact format I loaded them; i.e. without changing the file structure? I hate having 5 different artist folders when it's really THE SAME ARTIST! Frustrating... Thanks for any help.

OK, understand that iTunes and the iPod don't deal in "folders". They are tag (or database) based systems.
So, if you have five artists showing up on the iPod, you'll also have the same five artists showing up in iTunes. Just correct them. Right click the songs, select "get info" and edit the Artist. Remember, you can select all the songs at the same time and select Get Info and it will apply the change to all the songs.
It really helps if you turn on Browse mode in iTunes. Click the "eye" or press <cntrl> B. You'll see the Genre, Artist and Album panes. Just edit the tags so these all look right.
